It's really no different to the boorish Brits who have invaded parts of Spain, refuse to integrate and shout at the locals in English, simply because they have no money.
To the OP, if you draw a line from Llanelli to Wrexham, anywhere west of this is Welsh speaking to some degree, and if moving here you will get much more from life if you integrate and learn to speak some Welsh.
I fully intended to learn when I relocated there, but thanks to the totally unrealistic expectations of sellers in Wales during 2008-9, who were mostly English, I ended up back in Devon, my home county.
Here in Devon, things are much the same regarding incomers, but without the language issue. However, at first, I found it quite surprising how much estuary English is now spoken here, compared with in my childhood, but now I rather like the diversity.
It's fair to say that incomers here do provide the builders with lots of work, but if we are talking about who has the real money.....well, how many farms would count? :rotfl:0 -
There was no presumption of being "better". Just a factual comment that I don't understand the language at some events - so dont go to them (as its frustrating not to be able to).
The comment by my (Welsh) workman is just a factual comment that this is where he gets most of his work from.0 -
I lived on the coast on the left side for a while, for work.
Pros: Good sunsets. Cliff paths. Walks along the beach. Used a canoe. Salty air smell.
Cons: Miles from civilisation. Bad roads. Seagulls padding on and decorating the roof and car. Dull in winter. Didn't have any friends or family there- quite lonely.
Like Dave 'n' Save I moved back to the middle, but still take a motor vehicle to the coast quite often to experience the delights listed above, and generally holiday near it too.0 -
I too would like to hear any positives that 'moneyistooshorttomention' has about the area she has moved too. I get the impression she regrets moving there. Maybe if all the English are moving there as she says that she will eventually be able to sell up and move back to her home town.
When you move into any established community your have to try to get on with your neighbours work with them not against.0 -

No, what you want is for the entire culture to be eradicated and replaced with people like you. A nightmarish community of retirees who had nothing in their lives and went somewhere where there were cheap houses so they "could have a detached". No friends, no family, no life to leave behind. Why do you think that is?
Gosh that's brutal! If you find the poster annoying why not just put her on ignore?0 -
Much appreciate the suggestions.
Not that the bickering has put me off, but haven't really considered Wales. As Weston-Super-Mare is arguably our closest beach we take a trip out now and then, including January just past. I totally get the comments regarding visiting a popular tourist spot in the winter (to see the difference). It was like a ghost town, I couldn't believe it, but in it's own way that made the trip just as nice.
I would love a move to Cornwall as we go 2-3 times a year on a long weekend. Not entirely sure where I could look inland though as we usually spend time in Hayle + St. Ives.
Somebody asked what stage I was in my life - I'm 26 with (soon to be) no ties. Job hopped since I was 18 and never done anything exciting with my life, all the while wanting to move away from my hometown. (I've travelled to some wonderful places in the UK, why waste it somewhere I dislike). Even if it's a complete fail I want to spend at least some time in my 20's venturing otherwise I'll look back and regret it.0 -
Cornwall is a long but narrow county so inland isn't far from the North or South coasts-and the weather may be very different daily. Quite often I drive the thirty minutes or so from the South coast to visit relatives and friends on the North. Yesterday it was sunny when I left but raining when i arrived.
So cheaper places to live can be quite close to the beautiful coasts.
If you often visit the North coast why not explore a bit further.0 -

Why should I let her poisonous misinformation go unchallenged? Every time Wales is mentioned she sets herself up as the world expert on the place, seemingly unaware there were 3 million people living here quite happily before she decided to move to one tiny corner of it, and comes out with utterly nonsensical untruths which she has been repeatedly told are wrong. Most of which seem to be about how nice and advanced the incomers are compared to the awful backward locals who would apparently all starve were it not for her and her fellow settlers. Why should I ignore that?0 -

I'm sure you can challenge that without the incredibly nasty personal comments about her lack of friends etc. That's stooping too low. Your first paragraph did the job nicely without making you seem like a big old bully.
Sometimes people are vulnerable and different from others in ways that make them come across really badly and seem uncaring/selfish/thoughtless. Not trying to diagnose but I do try to be aware that it is a possibility when I see some posts on forums like this.0 -
Prices change dramatically based on how close to the sea and sea views. In my block of 2 bed flats near Swansea mine is on the front next to the beach and cost £500k same flat on the side £300k same type of flat a few hundred metres inland £250k
Edit - 2km away £100k0
