Good luck!0 -

But is it working now?
Or do you mean you have wasted 14 1/2 hours?
Sorry to laugh but :rotfl:0 -

I still have a problem on the "main" computer. You need a LAN connection (your network) and a WAN connection (internet). As woman said on the phone - there is only the router that connects you to the internet - so tried changing leads, went through so many settings that you forget what you've tried, and no way would it connect to the router page which you have to do in order to change settings with new provider's info. So all day the LAN connection was saying "connected" and customer services were telling me I was logged in but couldn't get to that page! In the end the bloke said at about 5.20pm I should do a scan to check Windows ok and that he would phone me back in about 20 mins..... but they finish at 5.30pm! Clever eh? So he didn't phone back and I just kept altering settings like you do when you don't know what you're doing, then eventually decided to try 2nd computer, which after a bit I got to work! So I still don't know why main computer won't connect to internet but have 2 computers that will. My advice to others is.... don't buy a computer, use other people's then it's their problem; don't get a router cos it's not as simple as they say to set up; choose a provider and never change, stop wasting your time, get a life, etc.!! :rolleyes:Torgwen.....................

I've just got myself one of these routers, its simply brilliant.
Right, so, you have 3 p.c's and one router/modem? Two of the p.c can both connect to WWW and Router? The other (main p.c) cant see the WWW or the router?
I would recommend you use 'static' settings to not confuse things. I find windows auto settings sometimes mess up.
Does your router provide IP's to the p.c's auto? Or have you setup your own specific network? http://192.168.0.1 Under LAN IP Setup (Use Router as DHCP Server)0 -
I had to provide IP's I think....
I have 3 computers, the one that's always been the "main" one was the one I set the network up from.
Basically the computer is not seeing the router. Ping 192.168.0.1 brought back "timed out". It would seem router settings are ok cos the other 2 computers are working fine, so it's something to do with main computer. Checked so many different settings both with & without customer services that I can't remember what they all are now! The problem with knowing bits & pieces about computers is that you don't know what half of the technical terms really mean though sometimes you know what they do & that's enough.Torgwen.....................

ok,
You running XP? I think you said before you are....
Open control panel and open network connections. Right click on LAN connection and select properties (you've prolly done this a mill times b4)
First of all go into advanced tab and turn firewall off just to rule it out. Then go back to general.....I uninstall all the other protocols here, you may use them so don't know if you should or not...then select internet protocol TCP/IP and click properties.
In here you want to enter the IP's manually, so in IP address enter 192.168.0.?
Replace ? with a number not already used in your network between 2-254
Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0
Default gateway is your router so 192.168.0.1 unless its been changed from default.
And use the DNS server as your router 192.168.0.1
Then click ok until i takes you back to network connections. Now right click your LAN connection and click disable. Leave it 5seconds or so just to make sure its disabled ok. Then right click again and enable.
Try log into your router now. http://192.168.0.1
Do you get anywhere?
I'd set ur whole network up like this following the above steps with the other 2 p.c's
Router - 192.168.0.1 - default gateway - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
p.c 1 - 192.168.0.2 - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
p.c 2 - 192.168.0.3 - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
p.c 3 - 192.168.0.4 - subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Then in your router login page dont let the router act as a DHCP. Then if you need specific ports forwarding etc you can easily identify the IP's of the 3 p.c's
Also, it could well be the NIC on the main p.c thats gone crazy, is it a mob built in one? or a pci jobby? can you find any newer drivers for it?
we will crack this....
Also, if youve got 3 p.c's then your using 3 of the 4 ports of the router, try swap them about to a port that supplies p.c's 2 & 3 as you know thet connect ok.

The router is connected to computer through a port that worked for other computer (leads swapped yesterday to check too).
Ok did that and the first time disabled & then enabled it said "failed", 2nd time it said "enabled" but Firefox says "This document contains no data" when try to connect to router on 192.168.0.1
The thing I did different when it said "enabled" was that I went back and changed the IP address to another one.
Yesterday I used Internet Explorer most of the day because it's the most troublesome, so reckoned if I got it working on there the others should work too (Firefox & Opera).Torgwen.....................

Your browser shouldnt have an effect on connecting to router.
With you saying your NIC failed after disable/enable I think this could b the problem.
I've never seen a 'failed' error on a NIC.0
