I've got a problem on one computer in my network. I've been trying to connect a new mouse & keyboard on it and have downloaded software for keyboard as supplied - there's no CD with the mouse, but can't get them to work. Mouse is USB and keyboard has choice (has adaptor) of USB/PS2 or something. The keyboard switches on as I can get one light to appear - F-lock, but can't get anything else to work. Have tried rebooting and still won't, the last time it affected the mouse which wouldn't work. I've also now lost internet connection on that computer since trying to connect keyboard & mouse. The original mouse/keyboard work ok now. Could internet connection be related to something I've done with new stuff - I've looked at all the obvious stuff re connections & tried repair but it won't connect. This computer on same network no problem. Thanks

Edit - forgot to say keyboard is Logitech Internet Navigator and mouse is Mustek "plug & play USB - no driver required".

Anyone got any suggestions on this?

I've tried system restore amongst other things but it wouldn't complete on a couple of dates I put in so ended up back where I started.

No sign of any viruses etc. at all. Is there a problem caused by installing Logitech software that you know of?

I still can't get internet connection on that computer.

I guess my initial suggestion would be to:
    > Try to install one device at a time to nail down where the problem is
    > Start off by going back to your original equipment and making the internet connection work
    > Try the new equipment on another computer to see if it's the base unit that's causing the problems or the new equipment itself

Are you using XP? Does the operating system come up with any message regarding "found new hardware, installing new software for it"?

My usb mouse will not work via the on board Pc USB ports, only via a self powered hub, if I remember rightly windows recognises it as a Human Interface Device

have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the modem ???

Are the USB ports set to "enabled" in the bios?
Does your conection exist, Start=> programs=> communications=> dilaup networking.
Should be one file for "create new connection" and another for your connection.

I've uninstalled the keyboard and mouse and will look at them later. My (main) computer still won't connect to the internet.

I'm using a DG834G Netgear router. The other 2 computers will connect. The LAN connection seems to be working. I can't get to 192.168.0.1 using Netgear CD and clicking "settings", so can't alter anything.

I've tried this with 3 browsers - Opera, Firefox & IE.

I've tried the Network Troubleshooter under Network Connections and it says:

    Passed -IP address 192.168.0.4

    Failed (all of the below)
    DNS servers
    Default gateways
    DHCP servers
    Default gateway 192.168.0.1

I've tried running the Network Connection wizard again and one of the settings is PPoE which I remember should be PPoA (?) but I can't find a way of altering this setting.

I've got a new ISP from tomorrow so I'm now concerned that will lose internet connection on all computers once the other one takes over as I can't get connection on the main computer to alter settings. Help.

Sorry to post what is perhaps the obvious but have you tried switching the power off of the wireless router for a couple of minutes then trying again?

Ok, I'm a little lost as to where you are. Can you connect to the router from the other computers that have internet access?

Firstly, go to, Start > Run > type "cmd" press enter. A command prompt will appear, type "ping 192.168.0.1". You should see a response if this is the correct ip address of your router. Try this step first. This'll at least show if your machine can see the router.

It may just be a DNS issue with your machine, in which case, right-click on "My Network Places" and select "Properties". On the new window right-click "Local area connection" and select "Properties". Double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and make sure the two options on the next screen are assign automatically.

  • Have you tried a hard reset on the dg834g - hold the little black reset switch in at the rear of the router for 20 secs - it will restore to factory settings including resetting the password - just a thought!

Yes - I quite often have to do this anyway as internet connection gets lost.

Yes, two other computers are connected to the internet through the router.

I have checked the "assign automatically" setting.

    Ping says:- request timed out
