This is the ideal way to do it. I couldn't do it this way as I had already signed up to 300+300 cable before my original contract had ended, so I had two contracts running for a few weeks. If you haven't already signed up to 300+300, then just tell them over the phone when you sign up that you want to use your old number. You might have to wait until your current contract is completely over to do this - check with them, they might switch your account to psuedo-PAYG (i.e. no line rental with monthly DD payment) and then you will be able to transfer your number over.

The PAC code request was the wrong thing to do, as it's used for transferring to a different network. So they had to cancel my PAC code before they could do the main internal number transfer.
