Flight ticket not needed - Will airline use it ?

Bought three flights last year for trip to Spain, but now my daughter has decided she's not coming.
BA say I will only get around £10 refund so I would rather have the space than a stranger next to me. Should I tell BA ticket won't be used on arrival, or stay quiet?
Grateful for any advice.

If the flight is overbooked (which most airlines do) they may have people on standby waiting on boarding to close. On closure any checked in passengers who have not boarded will be offloaded and their seats issued to those waiting (which could include airline staff on standby tickets)
You may be lucky and flight not full...0 -
Sounds like a plan.
If I do that 24 hours before the flight does that mean it will be too late for BA to do anything when we arrive ?
No - theoretically they can change seats right up to boarding - if they were overbooked and your daughter hasn't passed through security they could re-allocate the seat
The chances of this happening are limited so I'd go for it and check her in
Bear in mind it won't work for return flight if she hasn't taken the outbound one0 -
If she, with her passport and boarding card, hasn't gone through the gate before the flight closes, then she's not on the flight and the seat will be released for standby passengers, there's no way you can save it for extra space.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Three times so far this year i have checked in online for two people out and back on Easyjet and only i had flown, and had two seats everytime.........not saying it could happen, but it has not happened to me.If she, with her passport and boarding card, hasn't gone through the gate before the flight closes, then she's not on the flight and the seat will be released for standby passengers, there's no way you can save it for extra space.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0 -

I would not leave it to the last 24 hours for everybody to check in.and in any case if you just check her in alone the empty seat could be anywhere (unless you have paid for pre booked seats) so defeats the object.Sounds like a plan.
