Or DMU, first week back, timetables wrong (all 3 years of my course were booked for the same room monday), lessons are changing all over the place, people dont know what the hell is going on, and to top all that its just been a week of telling me how much work i have to do over the next year. Or Nottingham Trent ...
It does amaze me that, with the level of intelligence you would expect in universities, organisational skills are incredibly poor!
No i'm sorry...It can only be Bath Uni!
Seriously though, you have paid for your first semester (term?) so you may as well sit out that?
Check what the universities rules are on dropping out and refunds etc it may be you won't get any of your fee back being a (1 year?) postgrad.
What is the light at the end of the tunnel for this course? Megabucks job with the postgrad qualification or is it just an 'interesting degree'? Talk to careers advisors to check out what this degree will really offer you.
Trust me i know what it is like to hate doing something you thought you'd love - its not nice is it, however if it is just one year then i'd say get your head down and put in the hours. Join some societies to get away from it at weekends etc and before you know it you'll have completed!
However i would also say that if the course is actually making you properly unhappy rather than just 'bored of it' or 'not enjoying it' then, well, the decision is easy...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. also maybe think about not doing the full masters but is there a PGDip or PGCert element to the course that would ultimately require less work though still gives you the skills to do whatever you're aiming forHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I know that I should be trying to get my head round readings and things, but I just plain can't understand, so I give up and then panic because I am not putting in my x hours a week. Oh yes and of course in the process of all this I am thinking why did I give up a job to do this as of course I now am adapting to having less money!
Does anybody else get a bit like this sometimes?
Oh yes, most (if not all) of the 'mature' students (22+:rotfl:) on my course felt like that in the first year.I have no signature.0 -
I think its normal to feel completely overwhelmed at the start.
Last year I did a fine art A level at a local college, the college is linked to the University and based on my work I was offered a place at the college on a Degree course for Graphic Design. My work was always very graphic based and I thought well how different can it be?
Well, VERY different. For a start I had never used any of the computer based design programs etc and for the first 3 weeks I really struggled to understand them. I was completing the work, but the standard was poor. I had never used an Apple Mac before and had no idea where to start there either!
I had a meeting with my lecturer last week after an especially difficult softwear tutorial and I just dissolved into tears. We had a chat, and he told me that he was actually incredibly impressed with my progress and that my paper art skills counted for much more than my computer work. He told me to stick with it, it would all come together and in 2 years time we could look back and laugh.
I instantly felt better about it all, and as soon as I relaxed a little knowing the lecturers were happy with me it all started to come together. I can now use the computers to a better extent and Im actually typing this post from my own MacBook which I now understand!!
Id recommend having a chat, you will be surprised what they think about you. Workload is always an issue until you have settled into a routine, some of the guys on my course live alone with no responsibilities yet still cant hand in a piece of work on time......Im married with 2 kids and I look after my elderly parents, but I can cope if Im organised enough.
good luck Holly, Im sure it will all fall into place for you.
