Do you think this is a good deal?

Options
I'm downgrading from bt tv to freeview to save money. I called bt to see if they'd match the plus net deal of £25 ish a month for line rental and fibre broadband. They have offered me line rental, weekend calls and infinity bb for £25.99 a month but it's a two year contract. Someone tell me to stop worrying and sign up! Or isn't it as good as it sounds do you think? Would love your opinions before I call them back later.

I only like being in a 12 month BB contract in case there are issues with speed/reliability etc

Yes see I'm wary of the 2 year thing but we have used their infinity bb for a year already with no problems so I know it works for us. It's more the price I'm concerned about I guess 😳

I've just realised I didn't explain it very well in my op, it's bt that have offered the 2 year £25.99 deal to match plus net

That's a good price. Especially as they currently 'offer' standard broadband for £29.99 per month, and you are getting Fibre for less than that.
  • There is also £70 cashback from Quidco for fibre so I would switch. The 12m contract is better too. Just because £25.99 is cheaper than BT's (extortionate) full price doesn't necessarily make it a good deal, but each to their own.
  • A further thought - I think Plusnet is 40/2 (download/upload) whereas BT is 55/10 so BT is better in that respect depending on your needs.

Thanks, I didn't know about the cash back. Plus net seem to be half decent according to mse Martin so maybe worth a try...

Irrespective of whatever deal you get, it is vital that the inclusive allowance covers at least all of your calls to UK landline numbers starting 01 and 02 and non-geographic numbers starting 03.

By having a "weekend" deal you will be paying around 20p per call plus around 12p per minute if you make calls on weekdays. At those rates, just two calls per week, each call just seven minutes long, will see you spending more money than if you had instead selected the Unlimited Anytime call plan. At around £8 per month, an Unlimited Anytime call plan allows an unlimited number of calls to numbers starting 01, 02 and 03 at any time without any additional charges just as long as each call does not exceed 60 minutes duration.

Most landline providers also offer inclusive calls to mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079 within their deals. BT is the only major landline provider to NOT offer this. BT charges 20p per call plus 16p per minute for calls to mobile numbers or half price at 8p per minute with an Anytime call plan.

Calling premium rate numbers starting 070, 084, 087, 09 or 118 will also increase the bill. Always try to avoid calling these numbers. In any case, these numbers are no longer allowed for customer services, financial services or public services.

I don't know if there has been a recent change but Plusnet's anytime calls package was cheaper than BT's.(not international) .

Sky are cheaper than both, though PlusNet was cheaper than Sky, last year, for us, because of cashback and the line rental saver..
