Found this article over the weekend, even though it's from 2014 it still has good advice.

After suffering a sudden bereavement and my DM going on about her not so imminent death (she's old not ill!) I found this refreshing.

If they offer embalming dont take it as its for cosmetic reasons only and if no one is going to view the body or isnt so concerned as to how it looks, its just a waste of money. Ive been to a few funeral where they have only hired the hearse. Mourners (even close relatives) have turned up in their own car.

Can you still be buried at sea ? No coffin , cremation or grave costs !
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Eww, eww and more eww! Eaten by the fish... Whales if your lucky.

Feed it to the lions at the zoo..... Circle of life an' all that.

They can have my body for medical research only if they promise to chop my head off first.... I know, i know its well weird but its the main thing that identifies me. The body they can have but not my face.:rotfl:

I've told me OH that if he does anymore than drop me off at the crematorium in a body-bag, I'll come back and haunt him!

I can't bear to think of how much money gets wasted on funerals. It's just waste disposal after all - why can't we just be stuck out with the bins?? :rotfl:

I bloody hate funerals. Been to so many lately, I've decided I'm not going to anymore full stop! Have told my parents I won't be going to theirs either :)

Anyone can be buried at sea within the strict criteria.

My dear Dad wanted to go in a black bin bag and have a tree on his head! We managed to persuade him 'up' to a cardboard coffin eventually.

Yes, the cost of funerals is awful so there are more people opting for direct cremations etc.

I went to the funeral of one of my nephews in Australia last year (34 years old) and vowed I'd not go to anymore. The previous year I had attended two funerals for young men from our village which really were dreadful in different ways. It's certainly no way to say goodbye.

My will is in the process of being changed and I'm having an expression of wishes too - one of which will be 'here's some money have a celebration of my life' - whether it's a huge afternoon tea party or a lovely restaurant dinner or a traditional dosh behind the bar of a local hostelry matters not. I won't be attending!
