I'm sorry to hear about your problems.
Too late now of course, but if you really don't know much about cars it's best to take someone who does know about them with you. Some makes and types of cars have known issues. An internet search would highlight those.
Unless you know what you are doing, and can preferably do some work yourself, some "cheap" cars can be a complete money pit.

A noise from the clutch is just wear and tear it does not mean its failed or it will fail any moment now.

Its just wear and tear on an old car. Your complaining about the brakes without knowing if there is actually anything wrong other than maybe cheap pads which are noisy.

Clutch is worn not failed which it needs to be for the warranty to cover. It wont cover wear and tear.

12 years old isnt exactly old either, getting on a bit yes, but not dead yet!

    Just my 2 cents.

my car is 15 years old, petrol 137k on the clock and i took it for a drive to cornwall this weekend, doesnt have anything like the problem described by op.

with cars this old you really have to buy from a trustworthy dealer. a lot of them buy these headache cars for scrap and flip it for good money and fob off buyers.

100,000 miles/10 years is the expected lifespan of a car. Sure many last more than that but that is the lifespan a manufacturer works on. They give bodywork warranty for 10 years and you'll find most manufacturers no longer supply original parts for a model discontinued 10 years previously unless that part is also used on subsequent models.

It was only as recent as the late 1980s/early 90s where you'd expect a car that had done just 70,000 miles and was 10 years old to be a mechanically knackered rust ridden shed sat in a scrap yard. Not many cars made 10 years without needing lots of welding and having wheel arches and door bottoms made of filler.

£1500 is entry level mountain bike money nowadays!
