Hi
I paid a deposit on a wedding ring back in Nov 16 with a 20percent vat free deal. I went to shop was unsure about the ring and they gave me a day. I rang up and paid the 50percent deposit said I was unsure the girl over phone told me to pay for cheaper one and if I could get back down to look that would be great. in shop nothing was explained regarding deposits/timeframes anything nor over the phone. Within two weeks they started call me and I explained i wasn't sure about ring and thy said they couldn't order ring until money was paid and that was suppose to be within two weeks - I said I wasn't aware but usually its one month. I never got back to shop with is over an hour drive due to a lot of illnesses that hot myself and my 9 month old baby which lasted a long time and I was pregnant and hospitalised.
Anther four weeks later the girl rang me back she said if I didn't pay they couldn't hour the pice, I asked to speak to manager - she said they only worked on 50% now and 50% later and I explained I hoped to get down following sat, she said she would go with that. I never got down and going on what the employee told me I was under impression they wouldn't hour the price with 20percent VAT free. I was at another wedding show in march and got another 20percent vat free voucher and got the ring quaoted - it was exact same price and asked if my deposit could be they transferred and id pay the difference - they have refused and said I no longer have any deposit with them - that thy would sell me ring with the new 20percent vat free if paid in full. what are my rights - pregnant - baby now ten weeks - no policy explained when it was asked for refund - they declined - told me price wouldn't be honoured but the money could go towards something else - all verbally - sick to the stomach - now telling me money has been lost and saying I agreed to such if I didn't come that week I agreed which I didn't agree. I agreed to price maybe not been honoured1

Perhaps starting your post again, but just put in the relevant facts would make it clearer?

Paid 1275 which was 50percent of the wedding ring. They said if I didn't complete the full purchase at their demand they couldn't honour price but money could go to new price now they said iv lost whole amount.

Sorry folks I'm sick to stomac basically I paid the 50percent of wedding ring at no time did they tell me timeframes - paid over phone - told them I was pregnant and fingers swollen and said ring wouldn't be made until full money received.
Didn't know timeframe was one month and told over phone that if didn't pay on the day that couldn't honour price in which they rang. I asked speak to Jane who explained policy and I said no one explained anything to me and I asked for refund she declined she said if I could get there in next six days she would honour price. I wasn't able get back to shop but was told by employee who called me money would go towards another estimate on ring. On getting another estimation it is exact same price now and they won't honour my deposit they said I didn't follow shop procedure but o wasn't aware of it at time of purchase! Hopefully this is more understandable

You agreed to purchase a wedding ring at £2550!! and paid £1275 deposit? WOW!! Is it for yourself?

Are you saying "they" are now stating that since you did not go back they are keeping the £1275?

Did you pay by credit card?

Yes they are keeping the money they will only sell or to me now for another 2550 - I paid by card - but I am so annoyed and worried as they said I. Role their policy which I didn't know about

Can they do this - after telling me firstly they couldn't keep honouring the price but could see when I did get back.
There was a lot of personal reasons I didn't get back being pregnant a very sick child was main two and worried sick about my baby and unborn baby but had I known policy I wouldn't of went ahead

I presume their argument is that you committed to the purchase and paid a non-refundable deposit, whereas you seemed to interpret it to be a somewhat looser and less binding arrangement. It's going to get tricky if it's all verbal but if you submit a formal written complaint to the shop/company and ask for copies of the relevant policies and terms and conditions that should help.

Was there no paperwork at all for a £1275 deposit and/or the full £2550 purchase?

Have they given you any reason why they cannot refund?

Is this ring being custom made for you or anything special they have had to do?
