I work in retail and twice today, two customers handed me a €1 coin instead of a new £1 and the other day, I was given one in my change - I asked for it to be changed

I wonder how many others have been given a €1 coin instead of a new pound coin? They look very similar.

It's going to get worse in the summer when more people tend to go on holiday. Then once the single colour £1 coins are withdrawn.

I know some foreign coins look very similar, but I think this is going to be the worst example

And the 50 cents is the same size as the 1 euro too here in Malta. Silly.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

As the old style £1 coins are legal tender until 15/10/2017 getting or being given one or more before that date still counts.
The one people need to worry about is the old style £5 notes as they are only legal tender until 05/05 2017

I might be mistaken but have you possibly misread the OP? OP's only reference to the old £1 was to say people mistaking the €1 for the new £1's would likely be more frequent once the old ones exited circulation.

No I did read and understand what the OP was saying and although I may have worded in slightly wrongly I was just trying to point out the old £1 coins and old £5 notes are the ones to remember {£5 notes more than the old style £1 coins} soon will be no longer excepted in the UK:)
With the title from the OP I thought it would be a good reminder to people as there seems to be very little news about them being withdrawn:(

Getting excited about some coins which won't be legal tender in 6 months time seems odd. Why not spend them? Perhaps concern yourself in early October and even then the Bank will take them for some time longer.

Agreed but with less than 3 weeks for the £5 notes I am sure many people could still have some that they have forgotten about and only last week a friend of mine was given one in the change:)

I bought fish & chips locally a while back, and was handed a fake £1 coin amongst all the others. I asked for a different one, and the cashier sighed and reluctantly swapped it. As I turned to go, she called out to her colleagues, "I can't get rid of that £1 coin!"

So watch out for shops illegally passing on counterfeit currency too.

I'm not giving them out as change or cashback
