Hiya, just shifted from sky to bt. Got my bt smarthub, flashing purple light, no internet. However, phone works fine for calls (it's an openreach double socket) BT are planning to send one if their engineers around and of course I'm a little paranoid he'll find "something wrong" with the socket (I've convinced the problem is at the exchange as the previous sky router worked fine) I've opened up the socket, orange wire going into B, white wire going into A, green and black cables coiled up and not attached to anything.
Anyone got any advice on how to avoid any excuses for unnecessary £130 charges?? The box is hanging loose, doesnt look good but has been working absolutely fine...I've just heard horror stories about people getting charged with engineer "fixing" it (£130) and then being spotted doing the actual necessary work down at the exchange...

If you have the front removed and are plugged into the test socket then you've eliminated your wiringEx forum ambassador

Yeah that's what I was hoping to hear. It's a double socket but I presume if the test socket is working for phone dial tone then the socket itself is ok for both phone (lower socket) and broadband (upper socket) as I i imagine they both run off the same orange/white wires?

Should I assemble it before the engineer arrives in case he takes umbrage at the fact that I've opened it up to have a look? I've heard something like the box itself is openreachs property...0

The box is theirs , BT last point is the test socket so the front part that unplugs is not an issue if it's unpluggedEx forum ambassador

Have you gone from FTTC with Sky to ADSL with BT?
If do it's probably still connected through the FTTC port at the cabinet so definitely not your fault.0 -
Plusnet , as part of a test, asked me to run the broadband with the cordless phone switched off between stated times, so interference could be ruled out. (It was as they found drops when the phone was disconnected.)0

Thanks for the feedback guys...I'm pretty sure there's no physical fault at my end but I'll get back after the bt man visits tomorrow!0
