Can anyone advise me how long it takes to add the meter details (electricity and gas) from a new supply (8 months old) onto the national database. I have made this request to Scottish Power on the 9th April and am still waiting for them to confirm that it has been done.
many thanks

8 months is far too long, but you can check Data Bases for yourself
For Gas phone 0870 608 1524 Be aware this is a premium rate number
The Elec Data Bases are regional, Google " Who supplies my Elec" for the phone number of yours - Be aware of premium rate lines

Thanks Dogshome but I was wondering if anyone knew if there was an OFGEM guideline for how long it should take for an energy company to register the details on the National Database. (Are they even obliged to? or do they simply wait until someone complains?)
Anyone out there from the big 6 want to give me an answer on this?
many thanks0 -
In elec, your Supplier requests the MOP to fit a meter, once fitted the MOP has 10wd to notify the supplier, DC, DNO and ECOES.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi Spiro,
if this is for a new build will they just be providing the plot number? If so who is obliged to provide the correct address after it has been assigned?0 -
I guess Ofgem have something to say on the subject, but I've always found, that searching their site for something specific is like wading thro' treacle whilst blindfolded.
The problem is most likely down to SP because they suffered a botched software upgrade and have been screwing up bigtime ever since.
However lack of registration finacially dis-advantages you, in that if it is not done you cannot Switch supplier, and that justifies an official complaint.
Suggest you check the Data Bases in Post#2, and if still no joy you WRITE to SP heading the letter Complaint.
SP then have 56 days to resolve the matter and if they don't you go to the Ombudsman on Day 57
If it goes to the Ombudsman you will need to show some financial loss.
After 8 months you have a good idea of your consumption figures, so visit the comparision sites and note down what tariffs are on offer that are cheaper than the one you are on with SP.0 -
Thanks Dogshome
I appreciate your feedback0 -
"Hi Spiro,

From past experience it will put on by plot number on new build developments and often will only get updated with the postal address if/when prompted by the customer0 -

It's not really is it?
It's a non-geographic, business rate number
https://www.gov.uk/call-charges
It costs 12p per min + access charge from a BT landline
It is even included as a free call within a BT calling plan :money:
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/assets/pdf/BT_PhoneTariff_Residential.pdf
By contrast, a premium rate numer, which is identified as starting with a '09' can cost up to £3.60 per minute (plus access charge) or £6.00 per call :eek:0 -
Thanks trickytree
and it seems (after talking to my neighbours) that Scottish Power have conveniently "Forgotten" to update any of the addresses on the new estate.0 -
Almost feel sorry for the staff at SP, as due to that computer upgrade they must be going to work in armour to shield themselves from the flack thats pouring in through every door and window.
Get that letter of Complaint in and encourage your neighbors to do the same, and airing the problem on Facebook and any other social site will help the cause0
