The previous tariff at Extra Energy (v1) was 08.56p per kWh and 54.8p standing charge per day.
In Sept 2017 Extra Energy replaced v1 tariff with the v2 tariff of 16.58p per kWh and removed the daily standing charge.
For 12,000 kWh I had been paying £1,227.22 per year (v1) this increased to £1,989.60 with the v2 tariff.
Hopefully, the PS price for the year, I'm calculating as £1,187.87 will be less than the EE v1 cost.0 -

I don't understand why this hasn't been used and forms part of my "advance payment".
Any suggestions?
Someone (I can't recall who) posted that they use the highest discount packs first.
I in fact have some fractions of unused Future Packs going all the way back to August September and November 2017.
So, I suspect the low discount credit you have will only get used if you run down your credit or if you leave and get a refund.0 -
Seems to work in favour of the customer, rather than the supplier!0

Yes it does appear Powershop are doing the decent thing.0 -
My electricity is due to switch to Powershop on the 13th. Can you guys advise what packs I should be looking to purchase as soon as I get access to the shop please? I'm guessing that will be around the 20th, based on all the information I've read.
Thanks.0 -
Can you guys advise what packs I should be looking to purchase?
There are only 2 things you need to do:
1. Submit a daily meter reading
2. Buy all packs that are offered (excluding "Top-up" Packs) to you until you are at least 12 to 14 weeks ahead
Once you have a comfortable "Ahead balance" you can then decide whether to purchase packs with a discount of less than 10%.
The discounts offered each month should increase as we approach autumn and winter, however, expect them to be low in the summer months.
If you look back through the posts in this thread you will see I posted the discounts that were offered from October 2017 onward.
As for the credit balance you accumulate, if you subsequently decide to switch to another supplier, the unused balance will be returned to you.
It is worth you taking the time to read back through all 22 pages of posts as they should answer any questions that you have on how the PS approach works.0 -
I joined up last September and have managed to get by so far with powerpacks with a minimum discount of 15% (other than my first month when I didn't cover the entire month and the balance was at full price). I was aiming for a minimum of 20% based on other posters on here but I had to go for the futurepack with a 15% discount a few months back.
I'm now paid up to the end of June. I was hoping to avoid going below my 15% threshold but thinking I'll need to fill up with the 12.7% discount on the June futurepack. Hopefully that will mean I can keep going with odds and sods of small special packs until the bigger discounts return in the Autumn.0 -
Thanks for that Zorba!
Another question.......
As an economy 7 customer my night time usage will increase by a huge amount once the heating goes on in the autumn. Powershop tell me that they will use my usage figures from my current supplier in order to know when to adjust my powerpacks throughout the year; I am slightly concerned that the powerpacks that are offered at this point will not be sufficient to cover my increased usage. I have no problem submitting regular readings but these readings will not allow for my winter usage.
Any thoughts?0 -
I was hoping to avoid going below my 15% threshold
Unfortunately, it appears that the discounts available in the summer months are significantly lower than those in the autumn and winter months!
I tried a similar approach and decided not to buy the Feb Simple Saver (18%) and April Future (12.2%), the following month I discovered that the July/August future packs were offering <11%.
Ho Hum!
Not to worry!0 -
As an economy 7 customer......
Sorry, not my area of expertise.....0
