This is the same position I was in. Although I would purchase anything with a 15% or greater discount and as a resulted have ended up with a lot of credit on my account.

I've just applied today to move to Bulb Energy (due to the £100 cash promotion), which beats all others hands down. It will be interesting to see how they refund the credits. Will they refunded those with the lowest discount or highest discount first.....

Have Ofgem got back to you yet? If so, what did they say?
  • You should be able to secure £50 of the 20%+ January future pack if you act quickly, and £50 of the February pack, which should set you up for a few months - whether you then take March or not depends on your usage.

I won't be, as I've got more than enough credit, but if your bill is say £45 a month, then you may have to, so you avoid the standard rates.

You have until the month before to buy the discounted back - e.g. 31st Jan to buy your March 15% pack. So I'd wait until January (when April future pack is released) so you can see what April's value is. If it's less than 15% then you're going to need to snap up March. If it's similar, or greater, then you may be able to give March a miss, depending on usage & credit pattern.

For the first few months, you'll have to take things like "Simple Saver" at 15%, as you haven't got access to the November/December 'future packs'. It's after ~3 months that you start seeing the most benefit, as the 25% future packs come into play.

If you're going to be using medium/high usage, then you will probably need to snap up 15% or greater all the time like Darren above. If you're low usage like me, you can get away with only taking 20% or greater.

Hi - I joined Powershop almost 2 weeks ago. I've been reviewing the app approximately daily and have been buying up any packs offering a 20% (or greater) discount. So January and February 2018 are all filled up at great rates, but I've got nothing in December, and I'm about £15 behind for November.

Exactly the same situation here, although I've taken the maximum March future packs - at 6700Kwh I think that puts me at the higher end. I'm still hoping / expecting a few more small packs to fill up Nov, and I'm still short for Jan/Feb but there's going to have to be something pretty special to make up for the lack of the Dec future packs

It's the same for everyone when they first join. To be benefiting from the Future Packs which are valid now you would have had to have bought them a couple of months ago which of course you couldn't because you hadn't joined!!

For the first couple of months you're going to have to buy whatever Special Packs you can even if they don't have as good a discount as the Future Packs. Any discount is better than having to top up your account with Standard Powerpacks.

When Future Packs come along I advise you to buy the full £50 worth no matter what your monthly requirements.

When the April Future Packs come out they may not even be as good a discount as the March ones were, but it's better than nothing.

Going Forward into the spring and summer I expect Future Pack discounts will get even lower - maybe down to 12 or even 10% so it's important to buy as much of the currently available Future Packs as you can (ideally the maximum £50 for each month) and it can sit on your account as discounted credit.

We won't see the kind of discounts that are shown on the October, November, December, January and February Future Packs until later on in 2018 if 2017's discount offer pattern is repeated in 2018.

Hope that helps. Buy Buy Buy while there's a decent discount.

Indeed. A few more of those Winter Jumbo packs wouldn't go amiss :) I'm about 10 days short on November mainly thanks to my oil-fired boiler breaking down for a few days. 3 x 2kw convectors and an immersion heater sure do send usage through the roof :(

Mr Chips and griffb. You May be interested to know that black Friday powerpack has just landed in the shop at 30 per cent discount. It's only a small pack with a large discount (mine was £4.20 worth of electricity) but every little helps especially if it avoids having to top up with expensive standard power
  • As I'm only exposed to the tune of about £170, I really can't lose any sleep over the highly unlikely risk of them going bust.

I just happened to be in the app (I don't spend all my time there, honest :D ) so bought it before any notification arrived. For me it's another 4-5 days worth

Ofgem's only response has been to re-state their policy re the appointment of a Supplier of Last Resort. I responded by telling them for the third time that PS Energy Ltd does not hold any Supply Licences. Ofgem really doesn't like dealing with consumers so I am not expecting to hear anymore from them.
