Have decided to give up.

Hate to admit defeat.

Last attempt.

Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programmes and uninstall everything you see for Belkin in there (won't affect your router).

Then download and install the V2 drivers. Shut down pc, plug in adaptor and switch on. See if it is detected and installs with V2 drivers.

If not give Rex_M's ideas a go.

Then flog it on ebay and buy a 2 quid NIC.
