Urgent help needed regarding a holiday booking made last night

Hi was wandering if someone could help me, my daughter who is 20 wanted to book a holiday for her & her boyfriend as a birthday surprise, they have been together for over 5 years & he really wants her to go on holiday with him, but she has only ever been away with my husband & myself siblings, she saved up enough money & only yesterday evening I made the booking for her which she asked me to do the problem is she's gone to work this morning looking really tired & worried, while at work she emailed me to tell me she's been awake all night feeling anxious & even had a panic attack over the holiday, & she has said she just can't go, I've called teletext to see her options & thinking it only being just over 12 hours ago maybe they could do something, we have been told she can either do a name change for £115 per person, or she can claim of her insurance provider (insurance we where going to book today ) or be a no show & loose all her much earned money! . There's no way she will go, I know my girl too well, & she will make herself ill til the day & just not go, I know this for sure, if she was to book travel insurance & go see her gp about her anxiety do you think she would be able to make a claim for medical reasons??? Please can someone help me, not sure what I can do, many thanks for any help given x

Insurance won't cover disinclination to travel or pre-existing conditions unless disclosed and covered at additional cost when the insurance is taken out. No insurer is going to take her on knowing she's going to cancel! And if she tells porkies and they ask for medical confirmation from the GP she'll get caught out with regards to timings.

When is the holiday? Is there time for her to get help with her worries before then in order to go? If not your only options are as already stated - name change for someone else to go or lose the money?

Why is she so worried about it?

What is troubling her about going now when she was happy about it last night? Perhaps seeing a doctor about the anxiety may help solve the problem so she has a lifetime of adventure ahead rather than trying to use it as a way to cancel. I do hope she can sort this out and allow her to live a full life.

You can't claim off travel insurance for a condition which exists when you take out the insurance

However, she may have a 7 day cooling off period where she can cancel the holiday

See if her boyfriend can go with someone else & get them to pay thier share of the holiday plus the £115?

The distance selling regulations no longer apply in U.K. law.

This is more up to date and clarifies that services such as holidays do not fall into the 7 day cancellation period just because you've changed your mind.

"But there are some contracts you can't cancel simply because you change your mind, including:

contracts for transport and some leisure services to be provided on a specific date, eg hotel bookings, flights, car hire, concert and other event tickets"

Thanks for your post, she's never been to the gp ever for this problem before, she was going on holiday before a few years ago & felt this way, ended up not going last minute, but she's never really had problems before this just thought it a one off, of she wouldn't have booked, if it's not an existing medical problem, then should she be able to claim any money back? Surely it isn't an existing medical problem until you have it in your gp notes ?? X

I don't think anxiety is a valid reason for cancellation that would be accepted by any insurance company

I am sorry to say this appears to have been a big expensive mistake in so many ways. Anyone searching on here for 'Teletext Holidays' would run a mile, their customer service isn't poor, it seems to be non existent so begging for mercy won't work with them, ever

There is no cooling off period for travel arrangements, there never has been so that isn't an option.

Insurance hasn't been taken out and wouldn't work, so don't buy it now.

If the holiday is more than a few months ahead, the loss should just be the deposit paid but if it has been paid in full, then hoping for a name change is probably the best she can hope for.

I am so sorry that she feels this way, most of us love travelling and get great enjoyment from it, possibly not Dr Dao, but acting in haste, whether buying a house, car or a holiday can prove to be an expensive mistake.
