What do you mean by backheeled? I'm not wanting them to take a
hit but just trying to work out my rights the door was not packed in bubble wrap or anything and the corner "protectors" were damaged.

In regards to taking the issue with the delivery then what are the suggestions on that?

Backheeled: they offered to send it, you said, no thanks I'll sort it myself.

You need to contact the people you paid to transport it.

They may have damaged the corner protectors. Depending on how an item like this is normally transported depends on whether or not it is adequately packaged for transport.

What did the supplier say when you contacted them to say that the goods arrived damaged because they were inadequately packed for collection?

But if the supplier won't help them you need to pursue a claim through your shipping agent (P2Go). Be aware though of any T&Cs for the contract ... for example did you take out insurance yo cover the full value of the goods? If not then the T&Cs may only entitle you to £50 or even less.

    Hi All

Thanks for the answers so this means I have to take up the issue with Parcel2Go and DX. I assume Parcel2Go as that is who I contracted DX with. What are my chances of getting anything from them or will I have to maybe go legal speak with them :-(

Was the item packaged to the standard required by Parcel2Go? If not then I suspect your chances of getting anything from them will be low.

So I would go to P2Go and not DX. I did not take out insurance sadly as I really thought what could go wrong its a wooden door.

However if it was packaged correctly according to the supplier then would this not be down to negligence from DX? Thus a breech of there contract and the Law were I think it states they should take good care of products until delivery?

Actually I am not sure whether it is P2Go or DX. However if you paid P2Go then that is who I would approach first. (If they were acting as an agent then I think it may be DX who are responsible.)

However the responsible party may say the item was inadequately wrapped. What the supplier deems to be adequate wrapping for collection may be different from what a carrier deems as adequate.

Is the packaging in your view adequate for shipping by carrier? If so then check the carrier's terms and conditions and confirm that it meets them. Then pursue P2Go/DX.

If the packing is not adequate for shipping you could try pursuing the seller. But they may say you did not pay for packaging and the wrapping was sufficient for collection.

    This is a mine field.

The sellers did say they checked the item on Tuesday and it was in good condition but it was not collected till Wednesday so this is a good 24 hours when things might have gone "wrong" I have no proof from the seller that things were in good condition before it was sent.

With regards the packing I have gone to P2Go and we shall see what they say but if I'm honest looking at the package apart from the lack of bubble wrap and the weak cardboard corner it looks OK.

Bold - not necessarily, it could have been checked at 4:59pm Tuesday when they finish at 5pm and collected at 09:01 when they start at 09:00 so actually only two (working) minutes. Not saying this is the case but to state it is "a good" 24 hours is clearly not right.

Was the packaging ripped/damaged also? If not then it points to it being damaged before being sent. If so then it points to it being damaged by your courier. You can sit and ponder over what happened between tuesday and wesnesday but ultimately if it was damaged by them, YOUR agent should have refused to pick it up or noted the damage on collection.

He didn't so we've come back full circle to it being your courier who caused the damage and therefore, your liability.

It may well be a "minefield" OP, but I'm afraid it's one of your own making....

Part of their £36 delivery charge would have been additional packaging and courier damage insurance.

Why do you expect them to spend their time and materials on providing additional packaging? If you, personally, had gone to collect it, in the same way you'd collect a kitchen door from the likes of B&Q, it would just be in a simple cardboard box and if you'd damaged in by letting it move about in your car boot, it would be your responsibility.

The seller's responsibility for packaging/damage ended when they handed it over to your courier, just like it would have done if they'd handed it over to you or your partner/relative/friend.

At the end of the day, there's a reason they charge £36 for delivery. It's for the additional costs of extra packaging (time and materials) and insurance/risk of replacement needed for damage/loss in transit.
