Circular Box In Kitchen

Hello,
I have just moved home and found this small, circular white box in the kitchen. The surface of it is numbered and the whole thing turns like a dial.
Does anyone know what it is for?

Thank you!

That's an electrical junction box.
You probably want to tighten the screw on the top to stop it spinning round.YNWA

On second view it appears that there maybe a cable to the left of the box that has been cut? Is that so? If so it may be that it has been disconnected? There looks to be a cable run running down from it, is this still in use?YNWA

Try a search using google images.
Please let us know what you find, as I'm ingrugued. It almost looks as though it could be a indoors clothes line for small items. Is there a hook on an opposite wall where a string from your circular thing could be hooked onto?0 -
Hi,
odd that the 'dial' has different directional indicators around the numbers.0 -
So the numbers around the dial correspond to the number of lines emanating from the number. E.g. the 3s have various T-shaped arrangements. I see that the line pointing to the edge of the circle is included in every position, so perhaps that represents the "input"?
Is that silver part like an electrical cable, or what? The device could perhaps be selecting which "outputs" are to be used?"Einstein never said most of the things attributed to him" - Mark Twain0 -
I think it is certainly a junction box, as I found this on Screwfix:

However, I'm still not sure what it is there for. It is directly above where the cooker is, but there is a separate electric cable which connects the cooker up.0 -
It is definitely an electrical junction box. Looks like it only has one cable going into it though so it looks like whatever was fed by it has been removed. Chances are the cable going into it is live, that's not a reason to panic in itself as long as the junction box is left alone / still has the cover on (hence my earlier advice to tighten it up so it doesn't spin).
The condition of the cable going into it looks from the photo as if it is in poor condition but it may just be debris / dust etc.YNWA

Ahh right that's where it is is it. Its power for an extraction hood would be my guess.YNWA

That would make sense! There's no extractor hood here now, but that might be the answer, thank you!0
