Once a day here :D but not a whole bottle! Just a glass or two - almost like a medicine then.

I'm with you on that one!!!! :j

Although there has been the odd day recently I've guzzled almost the entire bottle before I've realised :o

Moggins .... stop beating yourself up hun!!!!! You're doing incredibly well to manage on the budget you've set yourself with such a large family :T

I spend around £50 a week just for me and DS, (although included in that amount is also my wine and tobacco allowance for the week) so in reality I probably spend around £30 on food and household stuff, which has resulted in my storecupboard and freezer becoming stuffed full so I could probably get away with even less!

I've mentioned this before, and I'll say it again, the challenges aren't about competing with each other but finding a personal budget that suits you and your family and fits with your financial situation. I think you're doing a great job hun and if you think about it, your budget is only £10 per person plus animals, so it's hardly surprising you can't cut it any further ;)

Last night you would all have been proud of me. I did a huge cook and made two big savoury minces with veg, three spag bols and three chillis from 3lb steak mince. bit disappointed that I only managed two of the savouries and three of everything else but still, this is my first time. now OH is complaining that the "freezer is too full and he can't find anything"(!). And whilst I am on this can somebody settle this debate once and for all. OH says that a full fridge and freezer costs more to run so you shouldn't keep lots of stuff. I won't type my response as I will only offend......... Consequently more than two items on a shelf in the fridge and he gets tetchy. Please feel free to shoot him down in flames....... I won't stop you...........
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

He's very very wrong!! It's an empty freezer that costs more to run, my sister actually fills hers up with bin bags filled with newspapers if it gets more than half empty. Fridges are slightly different I think you have to have some room for the air to circulate but they certainly don't need to be half empty.

Yes I started to reply to this to, and then got another email to say there was another reply.... but will still say what I was going to anyway - that way you know it is not just one or two people who think this!!
BUT you should keep the freezer as full as possible to be more economical. If you don't have enough food, then either the newspapers as above, or fill emply milk or other plastic bottles with water. You can use these as cool blocks for picnics too!

Something we did last summer when we went out for the day was to freeze some squash the night before. Then the following day...into the coolbox they went (with the rest of the picnic)...until one of the girls wanted a drink. We each then carried around a bottle of ice (for a while at least). When any of us was thirsty we would get a nice cold drink, as slowly during the day the ice would slowly melt.

So, frozen bottles of water can be used for more than just 'cool blocks'. Flavour the water with something as you can drink the contents too.
