cheapest thing to soak nappies in

Dry pail them- it is much easier and safter (nappy bucket full of yuck+ investigative toddler any one??).
TBH I washed the wet ones with the normal clothes at 40 degrees once she wasn't dirtying every blooming nappy- enough washing going on that these were cleared daily and the the smelly stuff was tipped down the loo. Initially I did a separate 60 nappy wash most days, but after a while got lazy and they went in with the clothes too (with hot washes every few days). TBH after a dew months with a small baby, when everything he/she owns (and most of your own clothes too) has been liberally doused in poo/wee/sick the logic of all that separate nappy washing starts to seem a bit daft (in the same way sterilizing dummies/feeding stuff seems off when they eat the cat!-BUT you must always sterilse stuff used to store milk/food).
Aww that takes me back! My youngest is 8 now, and , perversely I loved washeable nappies. Nothing like a fresh, white, soft terry nappy:j . We still use the terries as mop up cloths/ hand towels (esp for camping as they dry easily etc)0 -
I have never soaked my nappies, always dry pailed them. I usually give them an extra rinse and sometimes add a bit of nappysan to the washing machine when washing them and they are fine. I was never keen on transfering soaking wet smelly nappies from a bucket to the washing machine, much easier if they are dry(or just weed in)DFW no.630!

I dry pailed DDs nappies with no problem - paper liners caught a lot of the mess, and the rest was rinsed off in the loo. Although I bought napisan, I never used it for soaking...I couldn't bear the thought of all that yucky water, and then having to deal with it.
Every few washes I did a prewash, just to get the tougher stains out - and hanging on the line dealt with the rest.
During the summer when the bucket was a bit more, shall we say 'fragrant', I put a couple of drops of lime essential oil on a tissue and kept it on top of the nappies.0 -
