Going through the legal paperwork for a new home purchase (Bellway are the developer) and a restrictive covenant is included whereby we would need to seek their permission to go ahead with any addition or structural alterations in the future.
Is this normal? Why do they have an interest once all the units on the development have been sold?

Unfortunately quite normal, it is a way of possibly generating further income by requesting a fee to give permission for additions/alterations. Developers will always claim that the RC is to make sure the development is not spoiled by unsightly alterations. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Is that restriction for all time? We had it but only until all houses sold and developer off site.0

Get a timescale put in, their scheduled finish date not the actual one which could be never.0
