I see it didn't take long for that idiot Corbyn to capitalise on the deaths of Grenfell residents, this guy will do anything for votes:

I think the residents themselves are asking serious questions and from what I hear they support his points!

  • I agree there are questions to be asked and answered.

Why suddenly is JC the one leading those and directly criticising TM.

Why not Sadiq who has been in place longer and locally and directly present? Equally wrong, but...

Opportunist point scoring does not sit well with the sentiments and true action required for me.

Because he's been asking those questions and criticising the Tories for years already?
He tried to pass a law last year to avoid this sort of thing, which was rejected by the Tories.

I think it's perfectly fair that he's keeping the pressure on them to explain why they don't want housing to be safe.

Timing is poor but someone has to ask those questions at some point.

Which law? Maybe I missed that. And why was the law not put inn place by the last Labour government who had how many years to do this?

But my point is this is the appropriate reaction today, courtesy of the Queen -
"My thoughts and prayers are with those families who have lost loved ones in the Grenfell Tower fire and the many people who are still critically ill in hospital.

"Prince Philip and I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of firefighters and other emergency services officers who put their own lives at risk to save others.

"It is also heartening to see the incredible generosity of community volunteers rallying to help those affected by this terrible event."

You don't "repay" a deficit. The deficit is simply the amount the government is borrowing in any one particular year.

    You "repay" debt. ..

If you borrow money it has to be repaid. The deficit is simply the amount of money you are borrowing now. The national debt is simply the accumulated total of previous deficits.

Your attempt at point scoring pedantry is a fail.
..And this government is on course to have borrowed more than every Labour government there has ever been put together..

Only if you are ignore inflation.
..A big part of the reason why we still have a deficit is that we are experiencing very weak economic growth. Here is a graph of economic growth for the first quarter of this year.

You will note that we are the slowest growing economy anywhere in Europe. Below Greece and Italy. That isn't a good economic record for the Conservatives...

What point are you trying to make? Are you saying we should be more like Germany and run a budget surplus. Or more like Romania and reduce our national debt to 37.6% of GDP?

    Good politics though.
The narrative that the Tories are happy to wind down public services and generally cut corners has real traction with voters now.
From my own personal experience since 2010, the wing and a prayer approach to our vital public services continues to be utterly shameful on our Governments part.

Truly disgusting by Corbyn to make political capital out of this. No different to Manchester or London Bridge though, he did the same there.

Whatever failings led to this tragedy are at least as likely to be down to Labour Govts as any other (apparently the warnings were as early as 1999). Likewise the work done on tower blocks is just as likely to have been done the same way in Labour-run councils as in Tory-run councils.

However none of that is the point. In circumstances like these, no politician of any colour should be spreading innuendo or suggestions of any kind. They should express sympathy then keep their mouths firmly shut until the facts are known. Anything else is both disgusting & likely to add to the anguish of people affected.

As others have said, it doesn't bode well that the previous labour government was warned and did nothing, but I guess that will be lost in the fake news that follows...

I'm not sure the baggage of a Blair/Brown nu-labour government will worry Corbyn and his growing band of supporters much, he'll probably join in with the condemnation.
