John Lewis Partnership Card and Chargeback

Am having all kinds of problems with John Lewis at this moment in time. I bought an item worth less than £100 before Christmas, returned the item, had the return acknowledged but the refund never materialised on my card.

After some detective work, the company has ceased trading leaving a lot of unhappy customers in its wake, and I discovered that something called chargeback existed, so I wrote to Partnership Card asking them to reverse the transaction.

First they ignored the letter, then when I asked them what was going on, they sent me a form which didn't cover my circumstances and when I contacted then in a chat online, they told me chargeback for MasterCard didn't exist. They asked me to resend all the information, and then promptly sent me a letter back, telling me yet again it didn't exist.

I rechecked my information, and sent them another letter drawing their attention to places where chargeback for MasterCard is mentioned, and have yet to receive an answer.

Anyone else had similar problems with John Lewis and solved them?

*Update*

I had a lengthy telephone conversation with Partnership Card this morning; to her credit, she was as bemused as I have been, as she can't understand why I've been getting this kind of response from them. She's raised it as a training issue for the company and credited my account even though the length of time it has taken over the 120 day limit through no fault of my own - worth knowing for anyone tackling them on a similar issue.

Good luck keeping it, the chargeback is still just the first stage, the investigation is whether it's available to be charged back or not.

The company need funds in their account for the charge back to be successful, if they can't get funds back you will lose the credit.

    Wrong on both points.

The issuer will consider if the chargeback is appropriate, if so it will action it and it's for the retailer to challenge it.

The company doesn't need funds, as whoever provided the card facility would have to meet valid chargebacks, if the company can't.
