  • Employee of Debenhams here!

I personally don't recommend Personal Shoppers - don't get me wrong I love my company honestly, however I will be vocal when I don't agree with something and that's personal shoppers.

I get people may want a second opinion or support when shopping for a new wardrobe however PS especially at Debenhams have a daily target to meet. So even if you look awful, they'll say anything and everything to you to make you buy. I think that's wrong and I don't agree...

Grab as much as you want and try it on. You know what's best for you... ask a stranger in the fitting room for their opinion! NOT somebody that has targets to meet.

All 3 PS's I've used at Debenhams told me when something I tried on looked awful.

Plus on my first visit, I returned everything I bought and re-bought it all from the website when a 20% off everything online code was published.

There are items I still wear from my 2011 visit and colleagues tell me how lovely I look in them. Have more faith in your PSs!

It would be extremely counter-productive if the personal shoppers recommended a whole load of rubbish oufits that didn't suit you. You just wouldn't go back ever and I know people who totally rely on their suggestions and wouldn't think of buying clothes without them, going back time after time.
And no, I'm not a Debenhams employee.

I've used it myself once and been with two different friends on two different "clothing missions" for wardrobe updates.
You go with an idea of what you want (in this case, trousers, cardies etc) and then then go off for 30 mins or so whilst you relax with tea/coffee and a friend (me!). Both friends now will always use a PS because it saves time and also you have a huge changing room to yourself which helps! Having a friend with you will also help - they will know your style and also when you're doing your "polite face" of liking something. You really don't need to.
There is no pressure to buy, at all! Enjoy!
  • Yes, I mean. Why not? just make sure to let her know you have a budget
  • I always think my daughter would make a great personnal shopper! She works for New Look and I've seen her run round collecting more items for people when the store is quiet. She would never tell someone they looked good if they didn't! I've also heard her tactfully guide people towards better fitting sizes and the right underwear.

She loves her job and has a great eye for fashion!
