Shark vacuum 3 weeks old plastic bottom broke.

Options
Bought a shark rotivator vacuum three weeks ago. Very impressed with it but we have obviously hit the corner of some furniture as the plastic case and wheel on the bottom of the appliance has broken off. Can't even remember when this has happened. Taken it back saying that the casing must brittle and not fit for purpose but currys have said they won't do anything and referred me to the manufacturer as damage is not covered under warranty. I'm of the opinion that the vacuum should be able to withstand knocks by furniture and if the casing is fragile then rubber protection should be used. Does anyone know where I would stand regarding fit for purpose? I've had a dyson for ten years without any problems but was a little heavy so went for the shark. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You have the right to reject in the first 30 days - with the supplier. Don't cloud that with any warranty claim (which will be at the will of the warranty provider).

Damage doesn't come under that. They can reduce a refund to compensate for the damage.

Hoovers are not meant to be hit into furniture. Shooed they withstand it? Maybe. But it's still damaged.

Perhaps you can also blame Currys for the damage (if any) caused to your furniture by the vacuum cleaner - because it, the cleaner, wasn't sufficiently padded. ;)

Not blaming currys, I know not supposed to hit furniture but think should be able to withstand some bumps. Haven't had a problem before and don't think I've changed vacuuming habits! Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Their ad is enough to put me off. Apparently 3 out of 4 prefer shark over Dyson.

If I said a shark was £200 and a dyson was £400 which would you prefer to buy?

Thanks, I missed that. I really need to read on a bigger screen and not on my phone!

Vacuums are not supposed to be bashed into furniture????

I think my Dyson is rubbish, but it certainly withstands furniture bashing!!

If a vacuum broke from being knocked info furniture I would say it was of a very poor design or poor quality material.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Do people really bash furniture with vacuums regularly?

Genuine question because as far as I remember it's not something I've ever done. The way my (quite house proud) mum taught me to vacuum was to only go within a few inches of furniture with the main cleaner and then use the hose to go all around the edges, it gets closer to pick up more and less chance of scratching or damaging the furniture. Surely bashing the cleaner is just as likely if not more likely to damage sometimes very expensive furniture so doesn't really make sense.

Of course I've probably had little knocks and that would possibly be normal but not hard enough to damage the cleaner or the furniture.

In the case of the OP we don't know what type of furniture they have to know how solid it could be, if it has been knocked into hardwood or metal then I would expect plastic even tough plastic to break. If it was gently tapped against a padded sofa then obviously it shouldn't break.

Can you post up a pic of the damage?

You must have given it a bit of a wack to produce the damage you've posted about, I can't see the odd minor bump would do this.
