The claimant has 6 years to start proceedings to recover their outlay from you.

Long story short. I had a small accident in December 2015. I was driving my friend's car and I was not insured in the vehicle. I don't think it was my fault but they claimed it was. Now my friend, an insurance company, Liverpool Victoria paid for the costs and damages. I believe the insurance company legally have to pay out to the third party costs (I'm assuming that's what the costs are for?) but are allowed of course to sue you and your friend as you were driving and not a named driver on the policy.

Just as an off chance did you own your own car at that time? If you did check to see if your own car insurance policy covered driving other cars third party only. It's worth a look.
