Council Tax

I own one flat in a block of six custom built. I am also director of the management company.
One flat has been empty since 2015 after the lady owner died. She is still the registered owner of the flat according to LR records.
The son of the owner, who now claims to be the owner, refuses to communicate and enquiries to East Lindsey District Council say nothing but quote Data Protection Act.. The Management Company is concerned about insurance cover and it's possible voiding in case of a clam. Can I obtain information under the FOI Act to find out who is paying the council tax for a deceased person?

You have an insurance policy to protect against non-payment of council tax? Huh?0

No, this has nothing to do with public information covered by the FOI Act, but is indeed covered by the Data Protection Act.
As far as I know they are absolutely free to keep the flat empty if they so wish. If that could be a problem with insurance then you would then have to look at amending or changing the insurance policy.0 -
