YouView - Digibox Update Legal?

I OWN one of these and DISLIKE the Update. The point is that I paid full price for my Humax YouView box from Currys, rather than a free/reduced price one from an ISP.
Subsequently, it has no ISP branding on the screen.
If I had been given a free/cheap box, then I wouldn't have minded so much.0 -
I OWN one of these and DISLIKE the Update.Just for Clarity, My issue with the whole update, is that I Selected the Youview box in the shop, based upon demonstrations of various models. I Bought the Model, BECAUSE of the Menu Layout - This is a Feature, like any other device. Now that the 'Tiles' Have arrived (in the Recordings Menu). I find it difficult to use, and impossible to read (Programme Titles Don't Fit).
I Cannot get a refund, and the users do not have the option to 'View as a List'.
From a Consumer Point of View, If i had bought a Car, with Black Seats, the manufacturer can't come along in 2 years, and (without my knowledge) swap them for Grey, because "Thats what we're doing, and you have no say".
Also, on a technical note, after watching a programme, and selecting the 'back' button, it takes you all the way back to the Tiles, meaning that you have to re-find the programme you've watched to delete it (i've already accidentally deleted a whole block of a programme because of this 'improvement').0 -

I totally agree with you. Both my wife and myself have accidentally deleted blocks of programmes because of this new 'feature'. The fact that the titles no longer fit the tiles is also a pain.
Looking at other user forums, it doesn't look like Youview are ever going to offer the option of being able to select the old listing style.
As far as I am concerned, the item is 'no longer fit for purpose'.0 -
I dare say that in the original T&C's it said that periodic software updates will be made and that if you connect the box to the internet you tacitly agree to accept these , it's a bit late now, but if the box were not connected , it wouldn't 'update' but wouldn't be able to access catch up services like BBC I Player etc,
Although I can see your point, if you bought a TV box and outside warranty it stopped working due to a fault, chances are you would throw it away and buy a new one, and a new one would come with the new OS, from Youview point of view, if they offered a roll back to the previous OS, they would have to support two operating systems, and any future upgrades could be compromised by having to consider devices running the 'old' system.....FWIW, the same happens with Sky, the box updates , you don't get a say in the matter0
