Shocking nationwide security

My wife had her Nationwide retainednby a Nationwide ATM because she entered the wrong pin, no problem expected it to be posted back to branch, no she had to order a new card and obiviously a new pin because she forgot her old one.
Firstly when orderig the new card in branch she was told she had to report it as lost as they did not have a box on screen to tick saying card retained, so not a strictly accurate record of what happened
Secondly she would recieve the card and pin separately for obivious security reasons.
Guess what? they turned up TOGETHER in our outside letterbox.
I wonder what the outcome might have been if they had both been stolen,I sure they would have insisted that they were sent separately.
VERY POOR SECURITY NATIONWIDE.

Separately does not mean they can't turn up in the same delivery.

Quite correct. Should be in two separate packages. As all banks do.

Nationwide don't sort the mail and post it through your letterbox! They could have been sent on two different days and one got more delayed than the other.

Your security does not seem brilliant - outside mailbox!

I would have thought having an outside letterbox is the big security issue.

Edit - I type too slow

A determined thief could have stolen them on two different days.

The problem in this case isn't Nationwide. If you are concerned because you have an outside letterbox, you should never have asked for your card and PIN to be delivered by post, but to a Branch instead.

Also it only retains the card if you put it incorrect three times. Why type it a third time?

Until this month, when doing the round robin between accounts, I've been asked to use the card machine to log in and again to send money. However, this month, it just accepted the transfer.
  • RE outsise letterbox, pros and cons nobody can fish through it into the house of pour anything into the house, but less secure. Surely it is not beyond Nationwide to send pin with link to send card or have either collected from branch.
