Paypal Refunds for Wrong Address Fiasco?

As some of you may know there was a problem around the 13.9.07 when Paypal threw up the wrong addresses when buyers paid for items. This has resulted in 3 of the items I bought being sent to an old uni address of my daughter's with no hope of recovery of the items. Ebay have told me it's a Paypal problem and Paypal are not answering my calls or emails. Has anyone else had a similar problem and have they managed to get a positive response from either Ebay or Paypal? The sellers of the items are not interested, as they've sent the items to the address that Paypal supplied, which is fair enough, but I'm out of pocket with no goods and a hole in my bank account!

We're eBay Sellers & some of items affected have now been returned by RM & we've now sent them to the correct addresses.

Ask your Seller's if the put return addresses on the items.

Paypal state that they are owned by eBay & the problem is eBay's database error & to seek compo from eBay
  • Thanks, I will e-mail the sellers and ask if they put on a return address. Ebay are passing the buck, as they've already told me it's a paypal problem, so regardless of who owns who, one of them should pay up! It beggars belief really as paypal's reputation should be their paramount concern, I certainly wont trust it in the future and will send cheques if at all possible. It must be concerning for sellers too, who seemed to be getting the blame as Ebay advised me that it was up to the seller to double check the address with me before sending the item out!! Cheek:confused:
  • Hi,

yes I've had exactly the same problem - and so have many many others.

i use ebay all the time without a problem, then suddenly on 16th september paypal gave my old address to 4 sellers. All 4 of my items have been sent to an old address i lved at more than 3 years ago, and I've lost £40 because of it!

i contacted ebay - they blamed paypal.

i have contacted paypal about 6 times but they are totally ignoring me. no reply to emails and refuse to acknowledge the problem on the phone

I don't know what to do anymore. my sellers didn't put return addresses on anything, so now i've got no option but to claim it from them using item not received disputes!

    but i don't think that's fair - it's paypal's mistake they should reimburse us.

I have given them more than 3 weeks to respond to me, and they haven't. so today i sent the story to watchdog - and you should do the same!! the more people that complain, the more likely they will do a story about it.

there are loads of people who've been afected, read the ebay forums...

if anybody else has had the same problem i recommend you all write to watchdog (new series starts this week) - there is power in numbers and paypal and ebay need to be shown that they can't ignore their customers complaints - they have taken their cut after all!!
  • Ooh I have not heard about this!!
Thankgod it didn't happen to me!
Sorry to those of you who lost out! :-(

How are Ebay allowed to get away with this? They own Paypal so the two are virtually one and the same.

  • I've just logged on to see if there were any replies. I think contacting Watchdog is a great idea, and I'm off to do that now. I did escalate my claim via paypal, but they're ignoring this + my e-mails + I can't get anyone on the phone!! They are quick enough to make the charges, but SLOW when anything goes wrong and just seem to abdicate all responsibility!!!!!

    Forget Watchdog!

Make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. State that FleaBay or PayPal aren't responding to your communications. If PayPal subscribe on a per case basis to the FOS then it costs them £400ish. If they subscribe on an annual levy then it it likely that their levy will be hugely increased.

Aren't they offshore now in Luxembourg?

Do UK regulators even have *any* control over them now?
