  • I do not trust any garages with services after they failed to even change the oil on a works fleet car and changed the front discs at only 20k when they were perfect.
Do the oil change yourself, its easy, and so is the filter change.while you are at it change the spark plugs, they will be knackered after 20 k.. Buy the correct sump spanner probably a star key.You can reach the sump plug easily enough without jacking it up and let the oil drain off into a tray. Oil and filter will be about £25 and an extra tenner for four spark plugs..doddle of a job

Unless of course it's a diesel, in which case plugs would be a waste of time.

And when did you last buy spark plugs? Modern plugs last a lot longer than 20K in most cases, and half decent new plugs for a modern car are more likely to be a tenner each than for all four - unless you're fitting cheap !!!! which can cause all manner of problems.

I purchased the car January 2014, 3 year service plan expired January 2017 but I was under the impression it would be 10,000 miles or 12 months after my last service.

I'm not looking to sell in the near future (still 10 months left on my original finance contract) but I potentially will be handing the car back to them at the end.

If you hand it back and it hasn't been serviced at a main dealer, that could be problematic, I would suspect the small print states you must have it serviced by VW, so dont take it anywhere other than a VW approved.

Jesus there is so much stuff I've never even thought about, just read up on this and they say they could charge me even for late servicing aswell as what you've said and could be £100's-£1000's???? I'll be taking it to VW approved for sure.
