I'd agree. Take it to the main dealer. Unless you know a good small local garage that will be cheaper, the bigger "independents" and chains don't seem to be any cheaper really than the main dealers.

Halfords and Kwik Fit will rob you blind. You can bet your life if you take it to them they will find urgent work to stop your car being a death trap.

Their cheap services often work out very expensive.

I purchased the car January 2014, 3 year service plan expired January 2017 but I was under the impression it would be 10,000 miles or 12 months after my last service.

Generally service intervals would be 10,000 miles or every 12 months, whichever comes sooner. For example, if you were only doing 5,000 miles per year you couldn't only service it every 2 years and still comply with warranty requirements. I'm aware some manufacturers are more flexible in their approach, but I am talking in general terms.
It could even be argued that you had failed to comply with servicing requirements if your car had broken down after the 2nd service as that was done more than 2 years after purchase.

With servicing its normally whichever comes first, 10,000 miles or 12 months.

I would use VW. You should get a proper service from them and they wont care if you don't use them.

I do understand it was my own ignorance just assuming something rather than reading the proper paperwork.

Looking online there is a website called Servivingstop claiming a quote of £97 and they will pick up the car and drop back off, its the only place offering that kind of price so far so I am a little weary in trusting it?

I do not trust any garages with services after they failed to even change the oil on a works fleet car and changed the front discs at only 20k when they were perfect.
Do the oil change yourself, its easy, and so is the filter change.while you are at it change the spark plugs, they will be knackered after 20 k.. Buy the correct sump spanner probably a star key.You can reach the sump plug easily enough without jacking it up and let the oil drain off into a tray. Oil and filter will be about £25 and an extra tenner for four spark plugs..doddle of a job

Serving stop are worse than Kwik Fit or Halfords. Do a search on here for them. I wouldn't trust them with a push bike let alone a car.

Yeah I'll be staying well clear of them.

Its a 3 year old car worth £4-6k?. Don't burden it with a potentially crapola service for the sake of £60. If you resent giving money to the same VW dealership find another VW dealer for the service.
