OP, can you get a man who (preferably) knows a little bit about cars to go with you to the dealer?
He can say he's "representing" you and ask to speak to the manager to get all the information regarding the work done and billed so far, plus what action they say is now required, and a cost estimate of that.
He should make notes, not claim to be an expert, just let them see he is gathering information. They might then be more obliging to help you out at a reasonable cost.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I genuinely think they are unsure, the said could be cam belt, tappits, I think they even mentioned pistons all a bit over my head :-(
Now is the best time to learn about cars. I would recommend that you do as much research about cars and engines as you can before you go back to the garage. There are also thousands of good videos on YouTube that explain everything in detail.0 -
Maybe it just went into surrender mode and bypassed limp mode? Were there any BMWs around at the time?
Joking aside, dealership technicians don't really know what they're doing, they work there for a few years, get their qualifications and then move on to independent garages so they can learn how to fix cars properly.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thanks Victor, I'm going to see if my neighbor will come with me x0 -
Tell them to shove their bill. You are paying them to diagnose and fix your car and all they've done is !!!! it up.
Tell them to diagnose it correctly or you will arrange for a truck to take it. If they refuse then legal action0 -
As others have mentioned, i wouldn't pay that bill.
That bill only exists because they've failed to diagnose the fault correctly....twice. That's their fault, not yours.
I would be complaining to Citroen directly. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Who is the dealer Is it part of a larger dealer group? I'd look to escalate to a higher level if so0
