Air Malta cancelled flight - long wait for refund

Bit of a rant, sorry.

We had a flight booked with Air Malta from Manchester to Malta in May. Had a call from Air Malta today informing me that they have pulled the route and the flight will therefore no longer operate. They offered me a choice of either a full refund or a connecting flight. Decided on the full refund and to re-book with Jet2 who have a direct service with similar flight times.

Annoying but that's life. However, Air Malta have said it will take 3-4 weeks to process the refund back onto my card! This is really poor given that they took the money instantly, and they messed me about by cancelling the flight!

    pretty standard unfortunately
I recently had a fully refundable ticket booked direct with an airline that I cancelled within 24 hours of booking and it still took over 4 weeks for the refund to appear

Whilst it is "standard" I don't see why it should be or why passengers should be expected to accept it.

In this day and age refunds can be done instantaneously.

Recently I had Ryanair amend a flight. I wasn't happy with the changes so followed their automated process to get a refund. I had an email the next day confirming it had been processed, and sure enough the refund showed on my card that evening.

That's how it should be done.
  • It's pathetic.

I had a similar issue with Aer Fungus.

Twitter shaming them got it resolved.
