Child prices

It is quite annoying that companies can arbitrarily decide what age they consider a child to be.
Most places state 16, some 15 others as low as 13.
The more annoying thing in my opinion...
My daughter, who is still at school, cannot leave to go to work even if she wanted to, and is currently sitting exams, is in the majority of cases classed as an adult because she is 16.
So, we cannot take advantage of family tickets, as even though we are a family, we are classed as 3 adults.
Just a minor rant, but annoying never the less.

Will she have the same enjoyment at an attraction as you will? Or possibily even more enjoyment than you! If so why shouldn't the price be similar for adult & child?0

it is not about enjoyment really, i have no issue with children being charged less. My query, is when does a child become an adult?
if it was about enjoyment, then children should be charged more than adults for many attractions.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!

Legally at 18 - but we are not talking about legality, we are talking about marketing decisions by individual companies who are free to decide pricing mechanisms as they wish.
This includes whether they choose to offer discounted prices for children, senior citizens etc. In the majority of cases there is no real logic behind any deduction, it's just to encourage parents to take their kids to specific places.
Children take up the same amount of room as adults in cinemas, trains so you could argue that any price reduction is a bonus.0 -

I completely agree.
It is one of those things which seems to have evolved and stuck for no logical reason.
Although I will shortly qualify for some OAP reductions that too always seems wrong.
As does my my local (council run) entertainment venue giving discounts to the unemployed etc. That is, in effect, a hidden form of taxation. I pay the tax that the elected government decrees. Some of that goes towards providing benefits for those in need. Fair enough, but why should I have to contribute further when I buy a concert ticket?0 -

Again,
I am not questioning the rights or wrongs of tiered pricing. Just the seemingly arbitrary way in which some companies decide when a child becomes an adult.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!

I am annoyed by this too - especially / mostly in terms of hotel room pricing...
many hotels seem to class children as 12 and under ....WHY?
is my 13 year old supposed to book into a separate room not with her parents?
My daughter is JUST 13 so, so far we have ignored this and booked family rooms as we did when she was 12....
but I am wondering if soon hotels will notice at check in and say we need to book 2 rooms...
has anyone any experience of this?

As a single parent I have always had to pay full price for my son whenever we have attended events, gone on holiday and the like, as it is just the two of us, and it has been that way since he was 4 years old.
So I think you should be grateful for those discounts that you have received when you did receive them. Some of us have never had them as they generally only tend to be given if there are at least two full paying adults in your party.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
..one size fits all... and nobody minds if you give it back.☆.。.:*・° Housework is so much easier without the clutter ☆.。.:*・°SPC No. 5180
