Sorry to take my own thread off topic!! I just want to vent, but I know I'd just be judged, or told how lucky I am!!! One must never diss ones parents is an unwritten rule it would seem.
I need more wine....waiter, another bottle of Sauvignon Blanc over here!!!!!
Parents....just humans, that’s all....sometimes a bit rubbish, like others!
Enjoy the wine, & reflect on other things that are great.
Tomorrow is another day: chin up!!Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0 -
Thanks Guys
It's so hard when you've got no one impartial to talk to about this kind of stuff. My closest friends and colleagues have recently lost a parent, (we're at that age) so I can hardly unload onto them, especially this weekend!!
As someone commented on a recent thread. The intricate dynamics within a family can not be got across in a few posts, it would need a book. That's so true. On the face of it, each little incident in itself is inconsequential, but its when they are heaped one, on one, on one, over and over, that's when you think hang on, I'm being mugged off here!!! Also the timing of events is astonishing. Just when you think they might verbally (the reason for their call) want to "give", it's always a "take" !!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Anyway, enough of all that!!!
To get this thread back on track...watch this space for BIG NEWS coming this week!!!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Wow, thanks. I've never been called inspirational before!!
We've both always been savers, even since getting birthday money as kids! It's just in our nature's, which has made saving easy.
I'll admit that not having kids has made a huge difference to our position, as they reckon each kid costs over £200k over the course of their lifetime.
We don't feel we actually go without much... we're currently sipping prosecco in the sunshine!! Which suits me fine!!
With £500k behind us, why wouldn't we want to early retire, whilst we're fit and healthy. Who knows what the future holds.
You are very right, i have 3 incl twins and they are very expensive. We'd be retired now if we hadnt had them.0 -
How I feel today...:(:(
I feel like I am being eroded, like an exposed coastline.
With every gift given, and no thanks received,
With every favour done, and no appreciation shown,
With every assumption made of me, and every obligation placed on me,
A little bit of the soft, sandy top-soil that is my Kindness and Generosity, is being washed away,
Gradually exposing the hard, cold Granite beneath.
Families eh...?

Obviously you didnt keep your retirement secret lol.
You need to have a chat with them, and maybe set aside one day per month or fortnight to help them to the shops or whatever, keeping the rest of your time/money to yourself.
It isnt your fault they never learned to drive.
So what is happening next week?0 -
Oh no, the family drama's have nothing to do with my working arrangements!!! But if anything, I'm now definitely keeping it under my hat...but for how long??? Until state pension age!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

Right....the news!!!!
I've handed my notice in!!!!!! Yes, i know, it's earlier than i'd said, but hey, in the words of Gwen Stefani..."What you waitin' for" So the final countdown clock begins!!!
The Boss took it quite well, my close colleagues....they went a bit pale!!!
Let the drawdown commence. (well from the cash pot in the meantime, as DH isn't 55 for another couple of years.
I'll update all our figures, and give our half-yearly summary at the end of June, and that will become our starting point (with just a pro-rate wage for July to add), at which point i'll start a new thread, and post a link here.
So, I've jumped.....lets hope it's a nice soft fluffy landing!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

Fantastic news, well done!
Did your employers come back with any counter offer? Stay on a little longer, part-time, more money etc etc?
How long a notice period do you now have to work? A chap in my office had his last day before retirement a couple of weeks ago and although it was something he was looking forward to I could tell that he had very mixed emotions on his last day. How are you feeling about it all?0
