Shippping to Brazil

I have a parcel to send to Brazil, and have found the following information on the Global Data Consortium website

"Quick overview: If you ship packages into Brazil, you need to be aware of some important changes that require all labels be clearly marked with a tax ID number called the CPF. If you don’t have your customer’s CPF, the shipments will be returned or destroyed and you’ll be fined by Brazilian Customs. Many eCommerce merchants are not yet collecting CPF from their customers, and the new requirement could disrupt their Brazilian trade. GDC can provide it for you and help you avoid a disruption."

There is nothing on the Royal Mail website, or on Parcel2go. Does anyone know anything about this please ?

Goodness, I haven't seen that. I think I might have to block Brazil for a while as that sounds a bit risky

Its like a National Insurance number. Everyone who pays tax in Brazil should have one. Guessing that is how they collect the VAT/Import Tax etc... of imports. I would ask the buyer for one as I am assuming GDC charge you for providing the number?

Think I'll be blocking Brazil too!
  • Long list of items you can't send to Brazil including worn clothing!

My buyer has responded saying that the information is correct, and he has provided me with his tax ID number

I can't believe that there is nothing on the Royal Mail website or Parcel2go about this, unless I have missed it

Edit : On checking the list of prohibited items for Brazil, I don't think I can send anyway. The list of prohibited items is massive and I think stops 99% of goods going there. If you get chance, have a look. Think I'm going to have to block Brazil and cancel the order

Now I'm really confused. According to the Royal Mailwebsite, almost every item is prohibited, but when I google prohibited items to Brazil the list is quite short and contains just the obvious items

I have written to my buyer asking for clarification as he has bought this type of item in the past.

I think many of the items listed it actually means used. New is normally okay. Excluding the normal like guns, nuclear reactors etc.... I'd double check though to make sure your item doesn't get delayed for weeks or worse destroyed.

My item is an antique and is on the Royal Mail prohibited list but not the general one. I have to put the description on the customs form so really not sure. The item sold for £100 so a lot to lose

Make sure it's insured adequately against loss. A lot of stuff destined for South America seems to go missing!

I blocked all South American countries years ago and my life is so much better for it. Delays at South American country customs is horrendous and it is not unusual for an item to take 3 months to reach their destination. By then the buyer has claimed non-delivery and got their money back.

From experience, Brazil was the worse of the lot.

I was recently asked to send a large consignment to Saudi Arabia, and checked their exclusion list and found it not allowed. This is the first time I've looked at Brazil or anywhere in South America because I simply have never considered sending there. But, when people state that a lot of parcels go missing to Brazil (above) could it be that they have self declared on the CN22 what the item is, and it is in fact banned and therefore seized?
