Was going to suggest a fondu, but thought the bevvies might make that a tad dangerous....
Another possibility would be some Mexican-style goodies:
- Nachos / tostados
- Guacamole

Love the name Angua, maybe I could persuade DD to use it for forthcoming DGD, who at the moment is called Doris. She doesn't read Pratchett, so I may get away with it.

Big bowl of chilli, big bowl of rice, and a bucket of wine."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

Unless you know all your guests' tastes very well, I think you should provide an alternative drink to red wine. Can't stand the stuff myself, but I can tolerate white, if there is no cider available
. Also, I (shhh) don't eat chocolate  , so I'd be a right party pooper if I was coming.
Personally for food I'd be inclined to make several platters of different sandwiches, which you can do beforehand and keep in the fridge with foil or clingwrap over. A couple of big bowls of different flavours of crisps, and a bowl of salad. All you need is paper plates or bowls, and there's no washing up.
If you really want to offer something hot, stick a few jacket potatoes in the oven an hour before they are due to arrive, and put out butter and grated cheese, maybe a tub of coleslaw too.
Have fun! :beer:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I love Granny weatherwax too, but as anyone who has read my blog will tell you, it's too late now.
Ans so we don't get accused of hijacking the thread, if you are doing craft stuff, finger food might proof a difficult combination, I'd go with Jacket spuds & toppings

Thanks for all the ideas guys, they're really useful. I think I'm going to do some mini pizzas and some jacket spuds or potato wedges, salad and some nibbly bits. I've got some soft drinks in, guests are bringing bottles. I'm going to make some fairy cakes and brownies (which i can warm up if I feel like it) - mainly because these will keep fairly well if we don't eat them (OH is back from the states on Friday, so he'll eat the rest). I've borrowed a small coffee table, so I can shove everything on there and people can just help themselves.
Please may I have the hot brocolli dip recipe, it sounds greatOh! Oh! Oh! My ambition in life is to be like Granny Weatherwax! How could I have forgotten Granny and Nanny and Greebo? If we ever have another cat, he/she will be Greebo!
I'm so like Susan it's scary. No doubt about that one; even when I was teaching one of the kids said that! (she'd had been reading HogFather)I've just finished the new book but I wish he'd write a bit quicker :rotfl: :rotfl:
