Odd one.
We all know you can whip off to gretna green and elope and get married there.
Is there anywhere similar in the south but the same sort of thing? I realise you could do a registry office but would like something a bit grander.
Cheers.

yep, lots of them from a quick google, you just need a bit more time to plan them in England compared to the Scottish version -

Plus a lot of Registry Offices have really upped their game - well worth spending time with google street view, and also looking where the nearest public parks are...0

I attended a wedding here, it's beautiful and the grounds are lovely as well.0 -
Lots of lovely looking places in the south west that do elopement packages, if you google something like 'elope to cornwall' you will find them

There's a few packages at hotels in Cornwall and Devon, found a fair few before we changed our minds on eloping.0

I've been to two weddings in town halls that had stunning decor and a sense of grandeur (Islington and Chelsea btw). Much more than an "office".They are an EYESORES!!!!0

Not so sure about "whip off", the waiting list to marry in Gretna used to be about six months  as that one town hosts a very significant proportion of all marriages conducted in Scotland. Even if there wasn't a waiting list, there are still residency and notice requirements (England and Wales have them as well).consumers_revenge wrote: »We all know you can whip off to gretna green and elope and get married there.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

If you need a quickie, just pick any registry office just over the border. There are far prettier places with shorter waiting lists than Gretna Green.
If I remember correctly, you need to give a minimum of a month's notice. Don't think there were any residency requirements.0
