Returning to Sports Direct

I need to return an order (1 item only) to Sports Direct as they sent me the wrong/faulty item. As it was delivered to my home I need to post it back to get a refund. However, their Returns Policy says that I have to pay the return postage and that it must be returned using registered post. Why do I have to pay when the item is not what I ordered?
On Google I found someone who said that Sports Direct also don't refund the postage costs for sending the wrong item in the first place. So I could be out of pocket by more than £10.00, £4.99 for the initial postage and say the same again to return it.

If the goods are faulty or not fit for purpose, then you have a right to reject them and receive a full refund. If the retailer wants the goods back, then it is at their expense. Consumer Rights Act 2015, Section 20. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/20If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
According to their T&C's, they will refund the return cost up to the cost of their standard delivery (£4.99)
http://www.sportsdirect.com/customerservices/termsandconditions/sdibrookuklimited-termsandconditionsSports Direct UK will examine the returned items and notify you of your refund or repair or replacement via e-mail within a reasonable period of time.
SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd will process any refund due to you on Sports Direct UK's behalf as soon as possible and, in any case within fourteen (14) days of the day Sports Direct UK confirms via e-mail that you are entitled to a refund for defective items. Sports Direct UK will bear the reasonable postage costs of returning the items up to the cost of the standard delivery charge. Sports Direct UK will not refund any Next Day, Express or other premium component of delivery.
If you have a query about returning defective items, please contact customer services0 -
Great, thank you both for that. I'll give it a go. Curiously their Returns Form says
"All Postal charges are at the cost of the customer and we recommend using registered post."
No mention at all of them bearing reasonable postage charges. It could be that the form is old and they will now refund the return postage.0 -
I have encountered this. I contacted customer services - via email or their contact form, not sure - and arranged that, once I had mailed the wrongly-described item back, I was to email a copy of the postal costs for a refund. A bit of a faff, but they did refund the postage.0

Remember also that SD are responsible for refunding the returns post cost AND the initial post cost (if any was charged).0
