It's really worrying that a company of that size and with those economies of scale are concentrating on getting bigger rather than making profits. Once they have killed off the opposition, things will get really expensive.

Nevertheless, their delivery service is really impressive!

No it won't because then someone else will then launch a company to compete with them and bring the prices back down again. And with eBay doing as well as it does there's no way Amazon could ever become that expensive without the risk of people switching to eBay or a new competitor.

Unless of course, if/when that happens, Amazon decide to reduce their profit margin and drop their prices just long enough to put the new competitor out of business then put the prices back up again.

After all, a company the size of Amazon could easily afford to lose a bit of money in the short term, something a newly set up company might not be able to do.

The reality is that Amazon already have thousands of competitors - everything you can buy from Amazon you can get from somewhere else, quite often at a better price, if you're prepared to do a bit of research.

You seem to get particularly fast delivery for orders made on Fridays. I've often had Friday orders, next day.

I ordered a new computer mouse a week ago and the estimated delivery was 20-22 april. I wasn't bothered as my old mouse would last that long so I was in no hurry. Got an email staying it'd been revised down to 12-14 april, then got an email on Friday 7th telling me it would be here on Saturday 8th, which it was. 2 weeks early is pretty good going on the most basic delivery option seeing as I was prepared to wait.

Yes but eBay have the same power as well. They are often cheaper than Amazon. Flubit are also growing. It quite simply won't happen!

Flubit has sadly morphed into some sort of marketplace. Based on feedback of the relaunch, can't see them troubling anyone any time soon let alone the big boys.
