New replacement for Humax HDR FOX T2

Hi everyone, well i have had many years of being really happy with my HDR FOX T2 but the time has come to need a new box, although not really sure at the moment whats out there thats similar?

I would probably want to stick with humax but open to other suggestions, i need the box to pretty much just do what the HDR FOX T2 did, i dont mind if it has smart apps on and if it connects to the internet but this isn't a must, i just assume most probably will have this now.

I would probably need at least a 500gb, probably a 1tb drive, but i just need it to connect to freeview HD and to record, do any new boxes record more than 2 things at a time? again i know the HDR FOX T2 records 2 at a time, if its still only 2 then thats ok i guess, more would be nice though.

I have heard of some having 2 tuners, would these be ones that record more than 2 things? if so how does that work, do you just still connect the 1 aerial socket but it duplicates the signal or something?

thanks

    Look on their website. They have almost new re-furbs at really low prices.

    2 tuners means you can be tuned in to 2 things at the same time, whether it's to view one, record one, or record two. Whilst recording two, you could also be watching something from the hard drive, since there's no tuner involved there. I'm not aware of recording more than 2 at a time on Freeview.
    You may find that a YouView box, due to the numbers involved, might be quite cheap second hand, and will give you some smart functionality if you can plug it into the network. Otherwise, any of Humax's current offerings would suit you great, so you can just choose on drive size, and what's on offer.

    I think you'll find that this one

    allows recording of up to 4 channels while watching a fifth.

    The -T2 has two (or twin) HD tuners.

    The Freeview website https://www.freeview.co.uk will show you all available units that are similar to the -T2 from all makers. Most are twin tuner. NB not all makes allow two recordings to take place while watching a third; so if important to you make sure you check.

    The Humax FVP-4000T has three tuners and allows recording of up to 4 channels while watching a fifth! {This relies on recording two from the same multiplex frequency at once, and the fifth watched also has to be on one of the three tuned multiplex frequencies. The limitation of four recordings is most likely a hard disk data write speed thing.}

    (You should read reviews and specific forum threads on the possible units you shortlist. Use your favourite search engine to find such information. Ideally see them 'in the flesh' and play with them in a retailers. The user interface may be one to love or loathe. All PVRs have some plus and minus points.)

    If the -T2 is in good working order, it may be worth a few bob in the second-user department as they are still sought after. It has the ability to run a 'custom firmware' that adds to the unit's versatility.
