Did my big shop for May today and had to buy toiletries (deodorant, liquid soap and medicated shampoo (£8! for a bottle of shampoo!). Nightmare - add 20% to the normal shop. I also bought tinned stuff like tomatoes, chick peas and puree so they will go to my store cupboard. I was just checking my receipt to see why it is so high... Just over £100 in total, split between fresh and stores.

What I cannot explain is the malt loaf, ginger cake, hummus and Doritos or the bar of chocolate that came home with me - probably keeping the jumbo cashews, pistachios and ice cream company. I have worked so hard to lose just under two stone, I just can't explain it except "it's a Bank Holiday on Monday and we might have visitors". I do hope so or I will be putting it all back on again :o

    Have a good weekend everyone.

I feel your pain and congratulate you on the two stones that you have lost.
I was able to resist the chocolate in Lidl but not the 200g cashew nuts.:o At least they don't have sugar in them. Or salt.
The only good thing to balance this calorific buy was being stretched for time on today's trip, and having to hurry myself as much as I could, as I'm ambulant disabled. My heart rate was around 110 bpm for over an hour as a result; I have a Garmin that's fairly accurate on this sort of thing.

You may have bought those things but it isn't compulsory that you eat them. Do encourage others to do so! :D

I struggle a bit as I am on my own, I buy treats for visiting family but they don't always eat them and then I am left staring at mini Magnums or frozen yogurts every time I open the freezer door. :(

    Hi All

Back again after a successful April. going to challenge us a bit more by dropping out budget £120 to £100 for food with an additional £50 for take out/eating out. i want to cut it out completely but will struggle so compromising.
we still have plenty left and I've finally got my other half looking at the reduced section. he now gets really excited if he finds some reduced meat (we don't eat it as i'm vegetarian). Hopefully we can get some bargains to achieve the target.

    Good luck all
    Mim x

  • i'm in for $400 USD. It's a family of two but we have little in our larder as we just moved from our house into a small apartment. I even had to buy spices today.

Oh, I spent $165 usd today for two weeks. I will need a bit of veg and some bread before the 15th but should be under the $200 half-month budget.
  • Aimed for a NSD yesterday but bought a can of juice  80p spent

Got off to a good start for my first week of this challenge.
Taken my housekeeping out in cash and am leaving my cards in the drawer until next weeks hk is due, as that helps me to appreciate what I'm really spending.
Spend was £35.00 for milk, dog food, potatoes, onions, green veg and fruit. Have put £10 in The Jug to cover the rest of this month's milk bill and have £43 left.
Return bus fare to my nearest supermarket (I don't drive any longer as my eyesight is poor) is now £4.30 so I'm aiming only to go once a week, and to walk there instead of riding.
Fingers crossed for a successful month :)

    Can I join in please?
I'm going to challenge myself not to spend more than $600 ( Australian) in May. We are 4 adults and one always hungry Labrador.

I'm recently widowed so have no big monthly wage coming in from now on. First time in 25 years. So I need to readjust my spending habits.

I did a shop today but won't include that as want to do it as a calendar month.
