They're charging £50 to drain and fill brake fluid. Don't think this is a complete flush but should suffice. is £50 ok?

    Half an hour's labour, probably.

Yes, it's a "complete flush" - pour new fluid in, bleed through until new comes out the ends.

Why are you taking a 12 year old car to a main dealer?

I've always used a main dealer for my old Volvos - I have established a good relationship with the lead technician, get a discount for it being an older vehicle and get a further discount for being in the owner's club.

I've had goodwill gestures with some repairs because the cars have been maintained by the dealer plus the main dealer full service history gives me peace of mind and is a good selling point.

The dealer has a complete record of everything that has been done and that has helped get a Volvo HQ contribution on a couple of occasions.

I'm perfectly happy, all things considered, with using a main dealer for an older car.

Main dealer - £290 with OEM parts.
    Indie - £230 with aftermarket.

And you're querying the dealer price? The indie's the one that sounds high there...

I agree - there's not a lot of difference considering the indie is going to use looky-likey parts.

I'd rather go for genuine parts fitted by Honda technicians.

Wow, you're in the Volvo Owner's Club? That's so cool!

Loads of friendly and helpful people over there in the VOC - plus, lots of member discounts.

Most of them used to driving Panzers in the war hence the move to Volvos entailed minimal learning curve.
