Honda main dealer failed my MOT

The main dealer in Chiswick London failed the MOT for my car saying it needs new rear brakes and pads Ann charging me £290 including VAT to replace. I know it's a main dealer but does this £290 sound about right? My local independent is charging £230 but using Eicher parts which as I understand, probably not as good as the OEM Honda ones

It sounds dear to me but I change my own. The Eicher parts will be about £60. Rear brakes should take about an hour to do unless it's a very old car. Can't see why any mechanic should charge more than £200.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Car in question is a 2005 Honda Accord 2.4 litre. Rear discs are 280mm I believe so might be more than £60

Does the price include the MOT retest?

I don't see why it failed MOT, they would have to be down the bare metal to stop it passing the brake test.

Main dealer - £290 with OEM parts.
    Indie - £230 with aftermarket.

And you're querying the dealer price? The indie's the one that sounds high there...

Brake discs are possibly excessively worn. Hence the failure.

£290 for a Honda main dealer in Chiswick? I'd say that's about right.

Rear Discs and Pads are a doddle, trickiest bit is bleeding the brakes afterwards. Just hope it's not drum brakes on the rear. I hated changing drums and pads!

Why are you taking a 12 year old car to a main dealer?

While it's almost certainly due a fluid change, changing the discs and pads shouldn't need the brakes bleeding.
