It's a "we'll get back to you". Their systems are kind of backwards.

How long do they normally take to get back to you once you've applied online.

They took about a week for the letter to come through for me, but then it was over Christmas. Try giving them a call, they sorted out online banking etc over the phone after I got the decision from them.

    Great thanks.

I've not applied yet just setting up some DDs on an old account to take advantage of the switcher incentive.

Some banks do give details instantly but do further checks later - resulting in post opening closures and blockages.

I was asked for paper ID by a bank two weeks after opening, having my debit card and having deposited 2K. If they had asked on application, I wouldn't have bothered continuing but when they had my funds, I had limited choices. Had to take a few hours off work, provide the ID and chose to close the account too!

Want to open a Coop basic account by post, does anyone know if they require you to go into a branch? Nearest is too far away and not very mobile.

    They seldom are...:)

Is this the account you wish to open? There seems to be no requirement for you to visit a branch unless you want to take documents in for verification.

Do Co op give you an application decision by email or do they send a traditional letter?
