How much contact to expect off your estate agent when selling.

Just wondering how much weekly/monthly contact should you expect off your agent when selling. How often should you expect a market report? Should you expect a phone call once a week/fortnight/month even if they are having no interest in your property?

Expect whatever you want and instruct them to provide it. They work for you.0

If you are not getting any interest in your property it might be an idea for you to contact them and ask why.0

I would be expecting a few calls within first few days to arrange viewings.
I would expect them to tell me in advance the position of the viewers eg they have sold/FTB/got mortgage etc
After the viewings I would expect a written or verbal feedback the next day.
If I had not heard anything for a couple weeks I would be phoning them.
Good luck0 -
How long has it been on the market?
After a while I'd expect the EA to explain why he hasn't sold it.
Are other local properties selling quicker? This would indicate yours is over priced. If they're not then make sure you're with the EA which is most active with properties in your price range.
Any decent agent doesn't want properties on their books unsold after months. I'd really expect contact weekly for first month (detailing what they've been doing to drum up interest) followed by big conversations about why there's been no interest. How long are you tied to this agent for?0 -

If you want updates weekly/fortnightly/monthly - you can phone them accordingly.
But I guess you need to decide what you'd like to know.
For example, when I speak to an EA, I generally discuss...
- what similar properties they have on the market
- whether similar properties are getting more/less viewings
- whether similar properties are getting offers
etc
But I always have to judge whether they are exaggerating etc.0 -
You have employed them to do a job and if they are not meeting your expectations, ask why?
Are you sure your house is being marketed at a good price?0 -
Thanks for the replies.
It has been on the market since December. Had one buyer who dropped out first two times due to not having funds in place (should that have been checked, especially second time?) buyer dropped out third and final time due to me dropping out of buying place I was going to buy. And buyer after only getting their funds released week earlier wanted to complete within a fortnight, leaving me with very little time to find anywhere else.
Buyer now renting from same agent.
As far as price I think it is priced competitively, on for 60,000 and in last 18 months in same development one has sold for 65,000 one for 62,000 and one for 60,000 and another one put up for sale this week for 65,000. Also think my property if not equal condition to those is a bit better.
Interested in another property with another agent who has asked me to go on the market with them and for cheaper fees.
Is there anything problem wise which could crop up with that? Seems a bigger agents and also local as is the other.0 -

In terms of moving to another agent...
- You need to make sure that the minimum contract period with the first agent has expired.
- And you probably need to give 2 or 4 weeks written notice
Check your contract for details.
(And make sure the minimum contract period with the new agent isn't too long. Aim to negotiate it down to 6 or 8 weeks.)0 -
Perhaps your agent is thinking the buyer will eventually go ahead and buy yours but is happy to rent in the meantime, but there's little point starting the procedure all over again until you've got an onward purchase organised?0
