Roof Tile Identification

Hi,

Few tiles are missing from the roof. If I can find these roof tiles it can save £thousands from needing to replace with new tiles. Approx dimensions 15.5 x 8.5 Inches.

Yes got a broken one that the scaffolding worker has brought down for me. Hopefully you can get an idea.

There should be a name or number on the back of it, good luck finding a direct replacement without it. If the tiles are probably more than 20 years old they could well have been replaced with a metric equivalent by now which is unlikely to be exactly identical, if that shape/style is no longer made then you are looking at going thru builders yards/demolition yards who maybe have reclaimed tiles.

Failing all that then it looks like you have a hipped roof, you could strip one small side of the roof and replace it with a new similar colour/shape tile and use the tiles that come of it as replacements for the rest of the roof, not exactly the best option regards looks but at least it would save you a few quid.

You could try a reclamation/salvage yard.

Or email that picture to some tile suppliers. Someone will recognise it (it's pretty distinctive) and you will at least have a name to search for even if it is no longer supplied new.

Those are clearly hieroglyphics, please don't change the tiles or the aliens might not be able to find their landing site.

Ok so decided to get the whole roof replaced instead as finding the old tiles might be a problem like you said.

Which roof tiles/slates do home insurance companies like that result in a cheaper quote?

When looking for roof tiles/slates what should I look out for so I can be rest assured that roof will last decades to come.

Or can anyone recommend a good overall roof tile/slate that I can order online that is backed up by good customer reviews.

I've never yet heard of an insurance company asking what make of tiles you have. It's usually just "is it a tile or slate roof?"

I wouldn't be at all surprised if a reclamation site somewhere had a whole pile of those tiles waiting for a customer. My (over 40 year old) roof was stripped and re-laid a few years back. The roofer found a palette load of tiles of the correct pattern and colour to match the existing ones.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Sounds a bit of a drastic remedy to replace all the tile just because of a few damaged or missing,
If it was me I would replace with whatever I could find that were the same size and similar colour. Maybe move them around to a position that was not as visible. Then I would continue the search for an exact replacement.
What makes you think that some roof tiles are not as long lasting as others. I imagine that they all have to meet the same standard when being manufactured.
