Hi,

Just wondered about the idea of you only being able to view the forums if you are registered? Would go someway to stop people copying and pasting from this site and passing it off as their own?

I am a member of another forum that does actually do this and I think its a great idea?!

I do see what you mean but am not totally sure about the idea. Before I joined I was a "lurker" and learned such a lot. A lot of newbies particularly those with serious debt problems that seek advice say that they lurked and gained strenth from reading the posts before they registered. By lurking they reailise that tthey are not alone and that there are others in the "same boat" Surely thats the strenth of our site. Will be interested in what folk think.

  • While the forums are, quite rightly, important to the signed up users, what powers the forum is Martin's email and most of the articles are linked to the forum discussion threads and so they are accessible to all. Many, many more people only ever view the Main Site and read the articles there.

Stats today from the main site...

The Site (find out about it)
    • There were 2.98m visitors in August
    • They made 6.4m separate visits
The Weekly Email (read this week's)
    • 1,483,163 receive it
    • 886 new e-mail recipients so far today
    The Forum (view the forum)
    • Currently has 3,186 people in there.
    • 401 new threads started so far today
    • 4,524 new posts today; equivalent to 11 books

hi, i agree it's a good idea for people to register before viewing but even that will not stop certain people from copying, i had a certain member from this site copying and pasting my answers, and posting them on here as her own answers, i later found out that she had registerd on the site i belong to but had never posted or joined in with the group, she was just using the site to copy my answers to post on here! using a different name.
I have reported this to our moderators on the site, and i have also reported the person copying your posts, the moderators have put an announcement in our forum that this behaviour will not be tolerated, and to be perfectly honest if it carries on i will ask for those people to be excluded from our group, It wouldn't be so bad if they at least said thank you, or 'answers - courtesy of so & so' but
    they don't.
I hope you don't fall out with our group hjb, please don't let one person spoil it for us all, as with the person on here who keeps copying me , i will just keep posting her the copied posts she's copied from me :D

I am in total agreement with anniestar. One of the great goals of this site/forum is to help people who are deeply in debt and sometimes at their wits' ends. Many are just beginning to come to terms with their need for help and feel very vulnerable, so they often prefer to test the waters before taking the plunge.

Likewise, those who are unable to articulate their financial problems for whatever reason, can gain a lot of help by just reading the forums, and if they have to take the action to register they may never do so as it could seem a bit "committing" if you see what I mean.

    :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
